We are thinking of going to Dollywood. Would it be very bad in July? As bad as FL? WOuld June be any better? We don't take the heat well.

Maybe not quite as hot as FL but hot and humid. We lived in Cincinnati OH and the week we moved to Houston Texas is was hotter in Cincinnati than it was in Houston. Can be very hot and humid. We went to Dollywood in Aug and I couldn't really see that much of a difference between ther and FL-course I love it hot

Dollywood is in the mountains and we went in July a few years back. It was surprisingly COOL. I also cannot STAND hot weather so we were THRILLED. I know, I live in Ga but was raised in the Northeast so not really good in outdoor heat. Nothing in the world will make me go to Florida again in July or August... :scared: ... been there DONE THAT... but I would go to Dollywood during that time of year. :thumbsup2

I live in Tennesse and it gets pretty hot in July, but August is worse. It can easily reach 90-92 in July or hotter.

I live here. It gets pretty hot. i've seen it crest 90-100. It usually doesn't get that hot up in the mountains where dollywood is,though. Expect 50-60 in the morning, getting up to maybe eighty. probably sticks around 70 though. Shouldn't be too humid there either.

I live about 10 minutes from Dollywood. It gets very hot in July - upper 80's and low 90's. Not as humid as Florida.

In the national park, the temp does drop about 10 degrees, because of the elevation, but not where Dollywood is.

June is definitely cooler, and may be a little less busy, too.

We went last year in July and it was hot and humid, but not unbearable.

I live here and July and August are both hot. August is worse. My anniversary is the 8th and we went up to PF one year and I said NEVER again--too hot for fun. You'd walk around outside and your clothes were just sticky!
I don;t think july is that bad but it is HOT. 90's anyway.

I live here too and it's definitely hot in July and August. It will easily be in the 90's everyday. June is normally cooler with temps in the 80's and usually there is more rainy weather that month. I have stood in line many times at Dollywood in July with sweat dripping down my back. It is very humid maybe not as much as FL though. Dollywood isn't really in the mountains but rather surrounded by them.

i lived in tenn (don't know) and visit several times a year....july is hot, go in the mountains at the heat of the day, its much cooler there...also while dollywood isn't in the mountains, its on a hillside...(part of it is )

I am from the South... and have lived in that area...

Go to weather.com and pull up Knoxville, TN...
Check out current temps... and look for the place to click for monthly and daily averages.

Dollywood is actually not in the mountains... There are some 'foothills' but that is it. The temperatures at Dollywood will be just has hot as the surrounding Knoxville area.. There will be no cooling due to altitude.

And, in July it can be HOT.. In the 90's.
It can be humid, so that does make it feel hot.

If June is possible I would recommend that you travel as early as is convenient.. The summer heat sets in towards the end of June.

If you want to do water rides or visit Splash Country, you will be glad that it is hot enough to swim... My pick would be mid to late June.

Right now it is early May, and it is still nice and cool... even tad chilly at night.
Outdoor pools generally open Memorial Day, but their water can still be chilly for a week or two.

There will be a major weather change in the next 8 weeks between the first week of May and the first week of July. So timing could possibly make a difference.

Have you been to the area before?
Do you know where you want to stay?
I know that there are a lot of DISers who have been and like to offer info and advice!

it is cooler driving and walking in the mountains...its not the altitude...the shade from trees, hanging by cool water etc...;)

Wow...there's alot more of us Tennessee'ers (?) on here than I thought! I'm on the other side of the state in Memphis...90+ in July and August....I was pregnant in both of those months....talk about MISERABLE!!!

Well it's hot. But the humidity is nothing like it is in the deep south/coastal areas! Especially up in the mountains where Dollywood is. We were there 2 years ago the end of July/first of August and I want to say it was mid-upper 80s. I wore a tank top and shorts, the girls ran around in their swimsuits and crocs (lots of opportunities to get wet in Dollywood, lol) and we were very comfortable.

Oh, that's what I was going to add - even if it is hot, there are lots of wet rides - check out dollywood.com!
