How hot is August?

I am a little nervous about the heat factor in August. We are going 8/7-8/12, how hot is it really? We went in the middle of July a few years ago (when I was pregnant) and I was really hot. I would have preferred to go in the fall but our relatives that wanted to come are teachers and had to go in the summer. If I could get some feedback on the heat it would be great.

August is kinda like July there... but a little hotter! oh and more humid... oh and dont forget the everyday thunderstorm in the afternoon.

The good news is, if you have gone in July then you know pretty much what to expect. Assuming your not pregnant, that will make things a little easier to.

August is very hot. :sunny: :sunny:

Buy mister fans - you can get them at Walmart cheaper than they are at WDW. They will help a little.

Don't plan on running commando-style through the parks - take your time, and spend time on the inside attractions.

Visit Ice Station Cool at Epcot!! :cold:

Take time to play in the pool! :cool2:

I know people say it usually thuderstorms and rains in the afternoon, but is the skies sunny and nice, or cloudy?

We go almost every year in August--and I always say "never again too hot and rainy" --but we go again because it is quieter than earlier in the summer and the weather is the same. You'll have fun no matter what. Bring the ponchos!

it is very very very hot... did i say very?? but yet we end up going in august almost every year.. my dh likes to say this.. "it's kinda like having a baby.. while you're there, you're so hot and miserable and you say we're never coming back again in august it's just too hot.. but, then you get home and forget the pain and start planning your trip for next august.." hahahaha he's such a weirdo.. hahaha but, yes it is hot.. we usually get up early hit the parks when they open and are on our way back to the room around 11am.. where we go to the pool, or take a nap and then go back out to the parks late afternoon..

It's very hot, but at least you won't be pregnant (?). You cant go to Ice Station Cool at Epcot because it's closed for rehab. Wear light clothes, take a washcloth to keep around your neck and get it wet occasionally with cold water. Go to your room after lunch and wait for the sun to get less intense. You'll have fun.

Last year I asked the same question, because it was my first time going in August. I was real nervous, but truthfully it wasn't that bad. In fact I am going back this August, so it couldn't have been too bad. Here is what I did and how the heat affected us.

1. Go to the parks early and leave mid-day. Unfortunately, you have to take the parks at a slower pace or else you will not make it. The sun is very hot mid-day. The mid-day pool breaks are great. Me and my family really enjoyed the pool at the resort.

2. Bring an umbrella, not for the rain, but for the shade. This helped me tremendously. I did notice a difference.

3. Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water even if you are not thirsty.

4. Take air condition breaks. Duck inside a gift shop to cool off and recharge.

5. Bring a washcloth from your room and wet it at the water fountains and wipe yourself off. I put my on my head. It felt nice.

The only park that I found I really couldn't do was Animal Kingdom. This park dosen't have as many cool gift shops and buildings to take breaks in. We had to leave early because I was getting dizzy and light headed. Other than that we survivied and are heading back this year.

Also as one post already said you can literally set your watch to the afternoon thunder storms. They don't last very long, but when we were there they occurred every day almost at the same time.

Don't worry about it and enjoy, after all you're at the happiest place on earth.

Yes it is very very hot and very humid during August, IMO a little worse than July. Do what other posters said, buy the mister fans at Walmart, they also have those cool bandanas (sporting section) that work well. I always take a washcloth and enclose it in a zip loc bag, I put a couple ice cubes in it also it is very refreshing. Depending on when you go in August.........later in the month it is usually less crowded and you can get more done, otherwise, get an early start, take a break and head back later in the day. Try to make so PS for the hottest parts of the day and have a long relaxing meal. We had a heat index of 104 here yesterday, it seems like it has been a hotter summer and we are also experienceing the mainly afternoon thunderstorms, usually only last about an hour and are usually around 3-4 pm. Try not to carry to much, wear light clothes and perhaps a hat.

I live in Southwestern Ontario and the temperatures are abnormally high. They have been about 94 but with the humidex about 104. The air is so thick this morning you can hardly breath. We have smog and heat warnings out. So I think I will be ready for Disney the end of Aug. At least there I will be having fun!!

Hi There,

The best investment we have ever made was in our CamelBak's (water back packs)! You need a constant supply of water.

Actually I think July is hotter than August. But who's gonna stress over a couple of degrees??!!!

Advice given above is excellent. Leave the parks by noon and don't go back until 5 or so. Spend the afternoon in the pool or napping. :flower:

Use sunscreen, drink plenty of water, carry some washcloths that you can wet and wipe down faces and necks (this really works well!) and have portable fans. If you don't want the hassle of a misting fan, buy a small battery powered fan.

Remember, if you can hear thunder seek shelter!

Have fun!! ::MinnieMo

Thanks for the great advice! :flower: My dd id 18 months old and dn is 2 1/2..we bought those portable fans for their strollers is their anything else I should do to keep them cool :confused3

It is wicked, wicked hot!!! But during our 2001 August trip, it was hotter in Boston all week than it was in Florida. So, you can actually have weather that is reasonable, it just depends! Just use the great advice here, like leaving parks in the early-afternoon. Use that time to nap, shower, or go to the pool. You will be ready to take on the evening...have fun! :)

We went in August twice (well actually late august/ beginning september) we were one of the unfortuante vacationers that had our trip interrupted right in the middle because of Frances last year. I have to say that although it is hot, it is alot less crowded then other parts of the summer and you can still get alot accomplished.

Take your time and pace yourself, take breaks and try and stay hydrated. If you follow the tips you get here on the boards you should be fine. Have a great trip! :sunny:

My DH and I went in Aug '02 (the end of the month) and for the first four days of our trip (which started on a Saturday) it did NOT rain and we walked onto ToT, got off and right back on. As far as the heat is concerned...because of the lack of rain the humidity was low and also, we were already used to the heat being that it was the end of summer and all. The weekend of Labor Day was BAD! It started it's usual 20 minute down poor and all the bodies- the smell alone will kill you. I don't recommend ever going when there is a long weekend to be had. We are going in Sept. after Labor Day in hopes of finding low crowds and slightly cooler weather. Unfortunately with this being another hurricane season chances will be slim of staying cool. Have fun anyway and take it SLOW!

:sunny: x infinity. Rumor has it when people in Hades get too used to the heat, the Devil sends them to Orlando.

Take a break from the parks. Intertwine rides with shows or dark rides in A/C. Drink LOTS of water :drinking:

Slather on the highest SPF sunscreen made by man. Do it often. Try to wear shirts that cover your shoulders. Wear hats and sunglasses. Take care of your feet.
