Thinking of taking advantage of the free dining offer Aug 26-sept 2 how bad is the heat and crowds???? thanks for any help!!!!!

Crowd should be relatively low compared to the rest of the summer and given that it is the peak of the hurricane season. It will still be as hot as it gets in Orlando during that time, low 90's & high humidity, afternoon thunderstorms most days. That being said, I would still say go for it. The free dining offer is a great deal!

IT IS HOT THERE!

But, it isnt just the heat, because I like the heat. It is more the humidity. We were there mid-late August last year. And it was roughly, 94-95 degrees everyday with about 95% humidity. Most people can walk around, I would assume, in 95 degrees. BUT when you add that level of humidity to the air, it becomes a different situation. It is like walking through a wall of thick air all of the time. The only thing to break it is the rain, which feels awesome!

Given a choice to do it all again, I think we would go back in August. Because we didnt want to be in the parks all day due to weather, we did other stuff. Swimming, mini golf, DTD, resort tours, etc. Those are some of our best memories. I say you should go for it. Take advantage of the dining plan and have a great time. :earsgirl:

Been there 6 of last 7 years in the last week of August. It's hot but it is hot in NJ in August, too. You just need to pace yourself and take breaks at the hotel and air conditioned attractions. With regard to crowds, they have always been moderate in late August when we have gone (with the exception of Aug 2001 which was packed with short hours and many rides down for rehab). I think this year will be different. I read that park attendance is up 12% from last year (which wasn't bad) and with the free dining, late August looks to be a crowded time to go this year. We are stilll going but we are expecting the worst with regards to crowds.

Our family has vacationed to Florida quite a bit. It's hot, but it also does rain everyday so that helps in the afternoon. Have a great trip! :)

It's the humidity that's a killer!!! But boy does it make the air conditioning feel good!

We went last year and said that I would never ever do it again. But I guess we're going again in early August. We do parks early and take a mid-day break and then we go out again around 7pm and sometimes we just stay at our resort for the remainding day.

What is nice about the hot weather is that I know when I go in the pool, the water is not going to be cold, it is going to be nice and comfortable warm.

We have been twice in August and it was brutally hot... imagine getting into a hot car and using a hot blowdryer in it. It's that hot :sunny:

Oh, the humidity is so bad. You are pretty much guaranteed to have a bad hair day. We went for our honeymoon 8/26 - 9/1/96. The crowds were very light. It rained every afternoon, but only for a few minutes. I'd go back in late August, since crowds aren't as bad. We've also gone during the first week in August. Don't think we'll do that again. It was way too crowded.

I stayed a couple years ago Labor Day Weekend. Was hot, but it wasn't overwhelming. Just gotta worry about those Hurricanes, But I doubt it will be as bad as last year.

Heck, It was hotter here in Boston yesterday than it was down in Florida. It was almost 100 degrees here.

I would rather be hot at WDW than hot at home...or anywhere else for that matter! :sunny: :mickeybar

Agreed!

Last year it was so hot, and just needed a little break, so hopped on the monorail at MK to the CR, and just relaxed in there bar/lounge area for a while.

You have a lot of options if it gets hot to cool off.

We were there Aug 30- Sept 6. It was HOT! The crowds were perfect...walked right on most rides, especially after Labor Day (even LD weekend wasn't that bad). BUT, we wouldn't go again that time of yeah, just b/c of the heat. :cool2:

well they are not giving free dining away for free!! :rotfl: Aug and Sept are at about a 90% chance that everyday you will be there will be a "Scortching" day meaning the humidity will be about 70 to 90% according to a weather site I was researching. Oh well take a mister fan and a hat or wear the hair back EEK I have naturally curly hair, I just know I am going to look like a blonde carrot top in all our pics!! The humidity doesn't really bother us, believe it or not Iowa is pretty humid in the summer, of course no where near Fl but oh well. It is going to be like a hot humid jungle...but so much fun fun fun!! I went as a kid in the summer a few times and it was ok, of course I was younger then, just drink water and think of the water weight you will loose that week!!! :rotfl: Betcha I come back 5 pounds lighter!! :wizard:

It is pretty hot but we found getting an early start, taking midday breaks, keeping cool in lightweight clothes, and drinking plenty of water worked out fine and we had a great trip!

August in the midAtlantic states. I actually think it is less humid. For years, I thought people must be out of their minds to go to Florida in the summer. Then I went myself and found out that it is no worse than DE/NJ/PA/MD. In fact, it's better because it rains every afternoon, it's slightly less humid, and there are palm trees.

I like going the last week of August. The crowds decrease and there are enough indoor attractions which keep you out of the heat for prolonged periods. Bring and drinks lots of H20. I'm doing the free dining this year the last week of August. Can't wait.

We were there last August and are going back again the last week/first week of September. Listen, there's no way to sugar coat it-it's hot! But it's hot at home too. Get out early & then go back to take a break and swim, sleep, etc. Then go back out at night. Don't forget the ponchos...you will need them almost every day. One thing I found we didn't do is take a lot of video or wait in lines for autographs. It's too hot to stand around and as far as the video goes, I tried to carry as little as possible and besides filming = standing in heat = a no-no for me.

Have fun!!

:rotfl: I love this comparison. I have never been is August - This year will be our first August trip. I am keeping things like this in mind though, and hopefully it will help prepare me for the heat. Just know its going to be REALLY hot and be mentally prepared...I think that will help a lot! :wizard:

It is HOT, we've gone the last few years and enjoy the lighter crowds. We drink plenty of water and take our time.
