How hot and humid is September?

How does the weather in late September compare to the weather in late June? Also how are the crowds?

My family and I are planning to go to WDW this year and I thought about going in September. Last time we went was for our honeymoon in June'03. The weather was hot, humid and it was very crowded. It was my wife's first time at WDW and she hated having to wait in the heat for everything.

My wife has agreed to go back to WDW but only if the weather and crowds will be better. It will be the first time our son (currently 9 months) goes to WDW and my wife is worried about him being out in the heat for too long.

My inlaws are coming with us and my MIL's birthday is in Sept. and that is basically how I chose to go in September. It will be their first time in WDW also.

We chose to go in late sept this year too, but not to avoid the heat-only to avoid the crowds. Sept is one of the slowest times of the year. I can totally relate to your wife's concerns. I HATE dealing with the heat and the crowds, but I can deal with heat if there are very little crowds.
I guess the down side to Sept is that it is hurricane season and it is still very hot, but I guess nothings perfect. I would've opted for the first two weeks of December (the absolute slowest time at WDW), but DH said no way because it can actually be cold that time of year and he wants to make sure we get to enjoy the pools. Anyway, not sure if I've been helpful, I just felt like saying something! :earboy2:

Sept. is HOT!! We've went 4 times in Sept. and it has always been HOT! There are no crowds though. You can deal with the heat a lot easier than crowds. We went at different times of the year (Sept. mostly but Jan., March and Oct. too). We've found that October (mid to late--our trip was Oct. 18th-24th or close) had the best weather. Mid 80s (83-85 every day)--it was WONDERFUL! We also didn't have any rain that trip. Usually in Sept. it rains just about every afternoon which makes it so STICKY!!

But... NO CROWDS!!!

I agree completely with loveswdw, it is hot. We have always taken winter trips and decided on a September trip in 2004. Never again. HOT, HUMID, and you you finally get a curb spot for a parade after 4 visits and it starts to T-Storm and they cancel it. Granted, it was slow, but we've never had a problem on any other visit (off-season). Also it might be different for what you are used to. We are from northern Ohio (I can see Lake Erie from my backyard) and we don't really get too many unbearable hot and humid days. A week of them straight, while being on the go was too much.

We have went in September both times we have went.It is very, very humid! Last year weather was better because of the hurricanes. It wasn't as hot and we had a breeze.A couple of days it was overcast. The last two days were there the sun was hot and it was humid! It was great though....no crowds except for the last day at MK.April ::MickeyMo

We've gone that last 2 Septembers and are going again this September. It is absolutely hot and humid! But it is worth it to us because the crowds are so much lighter. Besides the DH and kids don't mind the heat - I do OK until about day 4 or 5 - when I'll have my one heat induced meltdown. But then I'm ready again for action!

Thanks to everyone. I may have to re-think my September date. I checked the average temperatures for June and September and they are pretty much the same. My wife says she does not want to go through the same heat again.

If I move the trip to October, will the weather and crowds be better? We don't want to melt in the heat, but we still would like to use the pool.

Just to be nosy... why was the last day at MK crowded compared to rest of your trip? I'm asking because we're going from 9/22-9/30 and I am very worried about crowds - I hate crowds... the kids hate waiting in lines... etc. I have tentativley planned on our first day at MK on a Friday that happens to have EMH AM. I am nervous about this, but down't want to wait 2 or 3 days into our vacation to go to MK! Thanks!! :flower:

Moopdog, it was a Saturday. They only has Spectro 2 days during our trip, Tuesday and Saturday. Also, Hurricane Ivan was still undecided where he was going to come ashore at during the first part of our trip.By the weekend everyone else must have decided it was safe to come to Disney and here they came.April ::MinnieMo

The weather will still be quite hot in October, and the crowds will be a bit heavier than September.

I'd say late October/early November might be your best bet.

We were there Oct 8-15, 2004 and thought it was great. The weather was about 85 everyday and it only rained one day. It was still hot, but not unbearable. We drank lots of water and used little battery operated fans (I bought them for $1 at Walmart). In the afternoons we went back to the resort so the baby could nap and our older kid could swim. Also, in October you have Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) and the Food and Wine Festival (F&WF) at Epcot so the crowds are a bit heavier, but it's really not bad. Most rides we waited 15-20 minutes. Pooh and Test Track were a bit longer.

Just remember that September is hurricane season. Sat in POP during Jeanne and Ivan just missed and anohter had hit just before we got there. I thought I heard that this season will be pretty bad, though hopefully not as bad as last year. Oh it was hot and humid when we were there. But not so crowded do to the storms..pirate:  :rotfl2: :earsboy:

We have been in Sept twice and it gets very HOT !! This year we are going in May so we are hoping it will be a tad bit cooler. :sunny:
