I see you finally "got it", and edited the word "poll" out of you thread heading. Thanks. Go to it folks.

Ooops, sorry! I posted before you said it was okay....

That reminds me, I have to return that overdue library book on international terrorism before I end up on someone's list...

I usually feel like I am choosing between the lesser of 2 evils.

Of course voting for Bush in 2004!!! ::yes::

This topic/poll/debate/whatever is really interesting to me. I'm surprised at the way most people have consistently voted straight Dem or straight Repub. Maybe I shouldn't be....but I am.

I voted in my first election in 1996 for Clinton. In 2000 I voted in the Republican primary in my state for McCain and wanted him to be the Repub nominee *very* much. Since he wasn't, and I could not support Bush or Gore, I didn't vote in 2000. :o I'm embarassed by that since I know voting is a right and priviledge I need to act on, but what can you do when there's no one you honestly want????

This year, I'm still undecided. I will not vote for Bush but have not decided on whether I will vote for Kerry. Once again, I may find myself without a candidate I want to elect. :(

I wonder if there will ever be a "real" candidate for those of us who are not on the far right or far left....

I have to admit that when I first moved to the US this is one thng that startled me. I had people say to me " am a republican ( or democrat ) my father was one, my grandfather was one, and I will always been one". That was completely different from what I was acustomed to. Certainly we had leanings, but I seriously doubt that many of us consistently voted for one party. Certainly I never did. It is a phenomenon I still puzzle about a lot.

But this poll is only about the Presidential election, of which there are few. I'll bet most people here have a more varied voting record when you take other offices into account. I've voted for a number of Democrats (though no Libertarians or "Independents").

Good point, Galahad. I hadn't thought of that. I bet you're right.

I guess that is what surprised me...that the people I spoke with ( granted a small sampling ) voted for the party, not the man, running for president. It was just a completely unfamiliar concept to me. But of course, we do not register with a party either, so it is not surprising it was foreign to me.

Yeah, I actually think we'd be better off if we hadn't migrated to parties in Jefferson's day. Because of the way congress works (see other thread) then party becomes artificially more important (probably too important). John Adams was right....political parties will be our ruin.
