How have the seas been?

With all this wind and cold weather. I was wondering if the seas have been rough? I am a motion sickness person and just wanted to be extra prepared.

Ariel, I was on the 1/8 Magic and the seas were quite rolling but I must tell you that I too am prone to sea sickness and I just decided at the start of the cruise that I would chance it and take dramamine if I got sick but I never even felt an inkling in fact I ate to my hearts content. My son looked out the porthole window one day and sat down and said my head feels funny and proceeded to gag but not vomit, he was very white for about 1/2 hour and then ate a huge breakfast. But to answer your question the seas were a little rough.

:D I was on the 1/15 Magic 7 day Western. The ship was definitely rockin' On the stateroom TV it said Moderate seas-up to 8 ft. swells, however, the captain said something on the intercom about 10 ft. swells. We didn't get sick at all and I get sick if I read in a car. It just rocks you to sleep at night! It was very smoothe the last night. We have been a little lightheaded now that we are home. Still feel the rocking on land. I heard last month at one point the had 15 ft swells. I think a lot of people were very sick. Just go prepared and take your meds.

Thanks Marylee - I usually take Antivert - they give it to people who have vertigo. Works wonders.

Just was running out of script & time. Didn't have time to see Dr. to get refill.

We leave Thurs on the 3 day wonder - can't wait.

Seas were rough....entire family got nauseous.....8-15ft waves for 7 nights.....put a patch behind my ear....WHOA what a difference.....enjoyed watching the MASSIVE waves splash our 2nd deck porthole.....cabin 2524 forward....wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Where did you get the "patch"? On the ship or a drug store?

We had 8-13 ft. waves on our 1/16 Wonder cruise both the first and last nights. People were getting quite sick at dinner (2nd seating). We've been on 4 previous DCL cruises. While two of those had the same size waves, none made my DH, DS, or the other passengers as sick as this past time. I don't know if the ships information was correct (re: stateroom TV), or if the stabilizers weren't working, but it was pretty miserable for only moderate seas.

re: medications--take 'em if ya got 'em...and make sure ya got 'em...

And we'd never had problems before on any cruises, DCL or otherwise. Wishing you smooth seas.

I've been lucky in the past. Only once was it really bad - even the crew carried "stomach distress" bags.

I was on the 1/8 Magic cruise, too. We regularly checked the tv to see what they said the waves were. There were gail gusts several days and rough waves up to 15 ft. most days. The rest of the time it was moderate. We noticed several people with patches and they all seemed fine. Many people without meds were noticably sick. Two of our dinner mates' patches wore off the last night and they were sick then, but ok the rest of the trip. We must be hearty soles---the rocking didn't bother either of us---we actually enjoyed it---without meds. The kid pools were even closed a couple days because of the waves. The adult pool stayed open and that was quite a wave pool---water would almost totally empty from end to end. I really enjoyed riding the waves! It also made ping pong more interesting!

My son and I are cruising Feb12. We love the great big waves. It really feels like being on a ship. We always take seasick meds about 4-5 pM the first evening knowing that getting out to open ocean can be rocky. I think you have to take them before you start feeling sick to really help.

Good luck to all out there and take your meds!

We were on the 1/13 Wonder and the night of the 15th we were rolling. Luckily it didn't start till around 10 or 11pm but it was quite a night-- creaking ship, closet doors swinging back and forth and everything.

We were on the Magic 4 day cruise Jan 4 - 8.

The seas were so smooth almost the entire time we were gone.

The first night got just a tiny bit rocky but the rest of the time it was like the ship was not even moving.

So we know the seas were rough for the 1/15 cruise, what about an update on the seas now?

Anyone?

What kind of seasick meds do you recommend for little kids? 7-10yrs

My daughter doesnt know how to "swallow" a pill yet, so I'm leaning towards a patch or wristband....or chewable???

Any info on this would be appreciated! 1st time Cruiser here and I dont want it ruined by waves!!!
:tilt: :worried: :crazy2:

We were on the 1/20/05 Wonder and I did not think the seas were that bad. We had never sailed before and had no idea what to expect. The first night we were all a little green. My DH and I took Bonine and I gave DD 10 and DS 5 Dramamine chewables. (We started taking this before we left on Wednesday because we drove from Tallahassee and the kids also get car sick!!! After the first night we all felt better but really the sea sickness did not keep us from any activities. Also a CM told me it is important to get your rest. She said she will occasionally get a little sick if she is run down and really tired.

Yes, the seas have been rough. For little kids or anyone that doesn't want to chance side effects, ginger tablets are a great natural alternative. For your child that can't swallow pills, your local health food store probably carries a liquid ginger extract. You could also consider using fresh ginger root, at home I brew it into a tea but obviously that would be tough to do on the ship. You could try cuting a tiny piece and chewing it or try it sublingually. Be aware though, fresh ginger is very strong to the taste ... more importantly ... while ginger is fabulous for nausea, dizziness, etc ... it is NOT something where more of a good thing is better. Too much ginger will not hurt you but can be very hard on the tummy causing quite a tummy ache.

They do make Dramamine in chewable form for kids. The only problem with that is, sometimes it makes them drowsy.

Pretty chilly still here in FL - it was 43 this am.

Has anyone got info (good or bad) on those Wrist Bands that supposed to deal with Sea Sickness?
