OK, so in the vein of the "big picture" threads people have been posting, recently.
How has WDW (or DL) changed your life?
For me, it's an easy question. When we were down in March, the last day we were there was the day of the Princess Half Marathon. All the women walking around MK and EPCOT with their medals were so very awesome,, to me. I thought to myself that maybe, maybe I could do something like that someday. I'm pretty much one of the least athletic people on the planet, always came in last in school races, and struggle with a muscle and eye disorder that makes a lot of sports very hard for me.
When we got back home to New York, I bought a pair of running shoes, the Couch to 10k app for the iPhone, and began training every day. A lot of days SUCKED at the beginning, but I just kept picturing running alongside Mickey and Minnie, and I kept going.
Two months later, I ran my first 10k. Convinced that this meant I was doing well, I plunked down the money for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon in October.
It has been a long road since then. Lots of training runs in 87 degree weather with 80 percent humidity, a few races where I was sure I wasn't ever going to be ready for Wine & Dine, that I was wasting thousands of dollars to watch other people run. Lots of runs cut short by pure laziness, and lots of sacrifice in the "food and beverage" department.
On Monday, I'm going to run 9 miles for the first time, and nine weeks from TONIGHT, I'll be running through DAK, DHS, and EPCOT, ending up in front of Spaceship Earth, the first attraction I ever rode at WDW when I was two and a half years old.
Your turn.
