We are thinking of buying through Disney for points at BLT, but we know we will want to stay at BWV alot. How difficult is it to get a reservation at 7 months?

Thanks

Depends a bit when you go but I'm staying for my 3rd time in a standard 2brm & own at SSR. We've stayed at BWV memorial day week, end of june and coming up 2nd week in August so it hasn't been difficult at all for me.

Sometimes, very difficult and other times, not so much. For example, October during Food and Wine is very tough.

But the question is how happy are you going to be if you can't get what you want at BWV for the entire vacation?

If you will be disappointed not staying at BWV, then I would suggest buying there and not at BLT.

We bought BLT because we didn't want to hope that we would be able to get the room we wanted at 7 months. We love being able know that we are we love. We considered SSR, as it would have saved us $5000, but in the end, not worth the risk.

Now, we did trade out at 7 months this summer to a BCV studio for 3 nights without a problem but had that not been possible, we would have been fine with BLT as it is our favorite resort (we are doing that last 3 nights of our vacation there in a 1 bedroom).

IMO, DVC is expensive and a lot of money to buy someplace you really don't want to be and there is no guarantee that it you will get what you want.

Of course, if you don't book until the 7 month mark anyway, then it doesn't really matter.

Good luck!

I switched out my BLT reservation at the 7 month mark for 2 standard Studios at BWV - based on what I had read I figured there was no way I'd get it (only because only 10% of rooms are standard view) - mind you think was JUST prior to F&W (Sept 18-15) but got both no problems. I was shocked and happy.

Most times of year, you can get BWV preferred pool or garden view at 7 months but even that can be difficult at very high demand times (Christmas week, usually rest of December, other holidays, Epcot wine festival). Getting standard view or preferred boardwalk view is hit or miss at 7 months almost all year and more often than not it is a miss.

As to suggestion above as to just buying at BWV, I personally would not recommend it as a new purchaser if you are a young family because its expiration date is 2042 (BLT is 2060).

Keep in mind the number of DVC members grows by the thousands each year. Assuming resorts near a park continue to be in high demand, BWV may be more difficult as the membership grows. 5 years from now, there could be 50,000 more DVC owners. Even if only 0.5% want to book BWV at the same time as you, that's 250 more people competing over BWV 383 (max 532) rooms.

Dedicated Studio: 97
Dedicated One Bedroom: 130
Dedicated Two Bedroom: 0
Lockoff Two Bedroom: 149
Three Bedroom Grand Villa: 7

If BWV is where you want to stay most of the time, I would suggest buying BWV points.

It's likely that it's been easier to book BWV the last couple years.
1) Fewer people traveling because of a terrible global economy.
2) Kidani, BLT, THV, and VGC all opened in 2009. Many people want to try newer resorts.

I just thought about my post more and wanted to add that if I could go back to 2005 I would have bought at BWV instead. Even though I have always gotten what I wanted so far, it is stressful waiting until the 7mo mark.

Someone refresh my memory...did the DVC offer an extension of ownership at OKW? Would they be likely to do the same at other resorts?

I made the same mistake.
I took the friends and family discount and bought at SSR. After staying at BCV my wife fell in love with it

Since then I have bought 3 small contracts at BCV so we can stay there :) and book the F&W at the 11 month mark.

I use the SSR points for the 7 month mark or my family :thumbsup2

They did offer extension at OKW (from 2042 to 2057) and manner of doing it, which required members who rejected extension to return signed document giving up any right to extension, turned into a disaster because many members would not return anything and some even wanted to be paid for signing something and returning it. It thus turned out to be a big headache for DVD. Result: don't expect to see DVD offerring an extension elsewhere for quite some time.

It can be difficult getting into the BW at seven months out during many times of the year.

The other thing to think about is how many points you want to be forced to use. I have heard many people get a room at seven months, but it was usually a preferred room instead of one of the lower point standard rooms.

And apparently the way the initial documents were written, they couldn't do it any other way - they had to have you reject. Since those contracts are the templates for everyone else, it apparently isn't as simple as "just change the process" - they have to get you to sign off on no.
