How formal is formal?

I have also heard that people dress more formally on the longer cruises. Really, most people were very nicely dressed on our 7 day Magic cruise. But I'll probably just bring a sundress for the optional dress up night on our upcoming Dream cruise.

I also enjoy the opportunity to dress up, and have the whole family look so nice.

For formal night I wore what would be considered a prom dress, my husband had on a suit and tie, and our dd's wore princess dresses. On semi formal night I had on the classic black dress, my huband slacks with a shirt and tie, and the girls dressy sparkly dresses.

We saw everything from jeans and button up shirts to floor length gowns with trains and tux's. Most people fell into the middle area with tea length dresses and slacks with shirts.

This was on one of the Wonder Mexican Riviera cruises.
