kind of a spin off of the do you like your store thread.
If you don't like the nearest store, how far will you travel to one you do like?
I have gone as far as 30-40 miles.

We used to travel 130 miles round trip to shop at Meijer once a month to stock up. Now we live within a 20 minute drive of 2 Meijer stores.

We often make a trip north to Florence, KY as prices are cheaper, ads are better, and coupons round up to $1. That is about 100 miles, but we don't make that run unless we can save $200 or more.

Dh works in a town that has more stores than ours has an often stops an shops on his way home from work depending on the sales that week. I usually make it the 30 miles to that town or the one next to it with DH once a week or so often we stop an do a little shopping sometimes a lot of shopping.

After the Publix near my house in Miami went down the gutter (which I heard has been rebuilt entirely on the other side of the street), I drove an extra 5 miles to the Publix in Adventura.

Other than that, I've never had to go out of my way to find a good grocery store. Publix is always close by. When I lived in Orlando, there were 4 on the way between Disney and home. I preferred 2, but I didn't mind the other two.

DW drives about 15 miles to go to the closest Wegman's (well worth the drive). We are supposedly getting one closer to our house, but Wegman's seems to move very slow when it comes to putting up new stores.

I on the other hand have driven 30 miles to go to a different mall, not because the mall was better, but because it was less crowded. This was before there were so many online stores. I personally can't stand going to brick-n-mortars anymore. I prefer to order online, and preferably at online stores that have a brick-n-mortar presence, so I can make easy returns. There is nothing worse then deciding to purchase something, schlepping all the way to the store, and finding the product is unavailable.

for us we go to whole foods when we can afford to spend the money and its 30 mins away from us for everyweek we go about 20 mins away

Stop and Shop is much nicer than Shoprite, but it's 7 minutes away, vs. the 1 minute drive to Shoprite. Shoprite is cheaper, though. I've been meaning to get to Trader Joe's, for some gluten free items, but it's a whole 15 minutes away, so I haven't managed to get there yet (I live in an area with a lot of close retail - have never been to Walmart, because it's 15 minutes away :lmao:).

I'm lucky enough to not have to worry about that. There are many grocery stores and they all double coupons. The furthest I have to drive to get to a specific place is to Walmart and that's about 10 minutes.

And a side note to ssawka and his mention of Wegmans: I live in Rochester, NY, the HOME of Wegmans. There's one in every town. It's a family run business and over the years they have slowly began to expand and add stores further south. I've worked at two and they are awesome employers. So, if you are lucky enough to have one in driving distance do it! You won't be disappointed!

A few times a year, I drive about 40 minutes to go to Wegman's. Happily, there is a new one opening only 25 minutes from me in another month! Yay! Until they build the closer one (10 mins from me) in a few more years, I will be visiting that one, but most likely still only once a month or less.

Although I love Wegman's best, we have 2 Giants, Safeway, Whole Foods, Food Lion, and Trader Joe's within 10 minutes of me, so it's hard to justify the hassle right now.

Not that far. The stores are use are in my town or one of the neighboring towns. I can't justify driving further to save a few dollars. I don't do BIG shopping trips like spending $200 each time, so I stick close to home.

We drive about 35 minutes each way once a week to the Commissary. There are plenty of grocery stores closer to us but the prices and overage coupon policy can't be beat. :thumbsup2

Another vote for Wegman's! The closest one is 20 minutes for us.

Giant is five minutes away, but I'm really getting to hate that store.

If I need more than a few items, I go to Wegman's.

DW drives about 15 miles to go to the closest Wegman's (well worth the drive).

We drive about 6 hours every few months to shop at Wegmans. Ok, ok, we really drive from Ohio to upstate NY to visit the in-laws, but getting to shop at Wegmans is a great perk! We load up the car just before we hit the road to drive home. Love that store!!

About once a month or so I'll make the hour drive to Trader Joe's and back. Other than that, everything is within 10 minutes or so of home.

The closest supermarket to me is 0.7 miles.
There are other supermarkets within a 1 mile radius of my house, but I drive 4 miles in the opposite direction so I don't have to do my grocery shopping with complete mutants.

We have a ton of stores very very close. The store I shop at regularly is about 1/2 mile from my house (if that). And I also go to Trader Joes every week - it's less than 10 minutes from my house.

Aldi is 10 mins from me and I go there once a week. Every few months we go 30 mins to Central Market.

I suppose I am rather lucky. I have Safeway and Giant both within 3 miles of my house. There is also a Food Lion, but I don't got here very often.

Within 7 miles is a Fresh Market and a Whole Foods (and another Giant) and within 10 miles is Trader Joe's (and 2 more Safeways).
