How far will you go for a good grocery store?

I drive 25 minutes once every 7 to 10 days for my preferred store. Every couple of days I have to pickup milk and a few basics or occasional specialty items. I do that at the local grocery chain that sits at the bottom of my hill, seven minutes away.

We drive about 40 minutes 1-2 times per month to Aldi to stock up! I love Aldi! We cannot tell the difference between the Aldi brand and other store or national brands (i.e poptarts, spaghetti sauce, granola bars, mac and cheese, etc.) I wish we had one closer to us but it is worth the drive - we save a substantial amount of money.

I suppose I am rather lucky. I have Safeway and Giant both within 3 miles of my house. There is also a Food Lion, but I don't got here very often.

Within 7 miles is a Fresh Market and a Whole Foods (and another Giant) and within 10 miles is Trader Joe's (and 2 more Safeways).

I forgot about Fresh Market - we just got that last year! Do you live in MD? Because your description sounds just like me, but a little further away! LOL!

We have a Publix less than 1/2 a mile away - I could walk to it if I had to - but it is N-A-S-T-Y so I drive 15 minutes to another Publix. For big shopping, to save money, I drive about 15 minutes to WalMart Marketplace; it's clean and it really is cheaper (I did a few item by item comparisons to Publix and Sweetbay last year). I'll drive 35 minutes to Costco and 40 minutes to Whole Foods, just depends on what we need to buy.

Trader Joes is about 20 minutes away and Whole Foods about 1/2 hour. I really like both of those. We go there for holiday/party food or if we are in the area. Our 2 grocery stores are 5 minutes away. There are also lots of farm stands (with great meat and veggies) and an awesome farmers market on Sundays too.

I second the Commissary -- except mine is a 10-minute drive...

Do you live on post? I do wish the Commissary was closer but I have gotten used to shopping only once a week. Rarely I have DH pick up something extra during the week if we run out of something necessary like milk or bread. He works on the other side of post so it isn't really on his way home but he will go if I ask him.

We have a Publix, Super Wal-mart and Piggly Wiggly within a mile or 2 of our house but I rarely buy groceries there because the prices are so high compared to the Commissary.

When we lived in the next town over I often made the 15 mile round trip up here to go to the "good" store even though the one in that town is decent. During the summer, I'll make the 40 mile round trip to the big farmers market once a month or so, because the one in our town is new, very small, and doesn't have a lot of what the bigger market does. Other than that I'm happy with our small town store and do most of my shopping there, with the occasional stop at Trader Joes or the independent specialty grocery near my mother's house when I'm in that area.
