Hi,

We would normally fligh from Manchester which is about a 50 min drive from home, but are thinking of flying Globespan from Glasgow which would involve a 4 - 5 hour drive and an overnight stay before flying. We would also have the drive when we get back!

Prices are a lot better for us than with Virgin who want about £850 more which is lots of spends.

Just wondering do you have to travel far and if not would you if it meant you saved quite a bit or would you tend to go for convenience?

Thanks

It takes us about 4 hours to drive from S Wales to Gatwick. We could fly from Cardiff but have always found the scheduled London flights cheaper than the regional charter flights (for equivalent service). we always stay over the night before but the drive home on our return can be hard work

we've even flown LHR-MIA and had a 4 hour drive the other end rather than fly from CWL.

We live in West Midlands close to Birmingham airport but Virgin don't fly from Birmingham so we are flying, again, from Manchester which is about 1.5 hour drive, depending upon the M6 traffic! Staying overnight the night before as i get too stressed driving for a morning flight in case of traffic - especially the M6! We, well my husband, will drive home straight away after landing, which, yes, is always a struggle after that night flight, we usually take an energy pro plus tablet to keep awake. We would definately fly from Birmingham, which is about 15 minute drive from our house if we could guaranttee a direct flight and tv's in back of seats etc - we just wish virgin would fly from there :sad2:

We travel from near Leicester to Gatwick - on a good day a 3 hour journey (although in the past we have had long delays on the M2 carpark!).

Due the the distance and possible traffic problems we always travel down the day before and stay at an Airport hotel overnight :)

We are 25 mins from Manchester Airport so are quite lucky. We always stay at an airport hotel the night before though as I get so stressed on the day we travel, it helps if we are already at the airport

We flew, to Italy, from Stansted this Summer.

A 3 hour drive as opposed to 1 hour and 'a bit' to Manchester

We live in elgin north of scotland are going by train to inverness which is 45 mins away then flying from there to gatwick which will take 1 1/2 hrs which is easier than driving to glasgow which would take 4 hours.

I considered doing this for this summer when Globespan prices were really cheap 3 of us in Aug were £900. Luckily I waited and picked up some BMI Man via Chicago at £319 each.
Next Aug I am not even considering it(just now anyway) as the prices with Globespan have gone up for next year. The £900 this Aug would be £1,362 next year.
Just hoping Virgin offer some Discounted fares with Frequent points from Man or Gatwick if I have to.

We fly from Manchester which is about a 2-3 hour drive from Newcastle depending on time of day.
Its a hassle, especially since I'm the only one who drives  but worth it to get to WDW!

We are flying from Dublin/Belfast, (not booked the flight yet, going next year) to Gatwick and staying overnight, as works out a lot cheaper than flying direct which is what we did last year

We live a 35 minute drive away from Gatwick and TBH we always try to fly from there as it's so convenient. Plus my DH prefers the short drive when we get back to the UK so it makes sense for us to fly in/out Gatwick as far as possible. :thumbsup2

Never found a deal at any airport aside from Manchester that would make the saving worthwhile for us. If it was in the hundreds then maybe i'd consider it but for less than, say, £200 saving I wouldn't. London and Scotland are quite a long way from me and i'd rather not have to deal with the extra expense coupled with inconvenience of a longer journey.

we only live a couple of miles from Manchester airport so we always fly from here so we don't have to worry about Car Parking, and hotels. We get a Taxi which takes less than 10 minutes and cost about £8 so we are lucky.

we have to drive 3 hours to Belfast or 4-5 hours to Dublin
got connecting flights to london one time , after delays on the way back we missed our connecting flight home Ryan Air and had to go on standby What a nightmair never again

We live alittle longer away from Manchester but usually stay the night before anyway.

Next year DH are flying to Las Vegas from Gatwick because we couldn't get direct flights from Manchester.

So yes I would fly from Glasgow if there was a big price difference. Have you calculated the extra costs involved? Petrol & hotel

we normally fly from manchester now as it tends to be cheaper than flying from scotland.it is quite a long drive though but we are staying in manchester overnight and going down the day before we travel, cant wait!

we live about an hour from Gatwick, but have booked to fly with flyglobespan from Glasgow next August as it was a massive £1500 cheaper than an ordinary virgin flydrive (with the free car!!!) and we have booked first class with flyglobespan. We will be in Sheffield just before we go so though that we were almost half way to Glasgow, on the way back we are visiting with friends for a couple of nights so the journey will be broken up. It was too much money to save.....

You would have to work out how much you would save. I.e the cost of petrol to get there, car parking fees, overnight in a hotel and petrol to come home against the £850 you would be saving. Personally when we land the last thing we want is a 4-5 hour journey if it can be avoided.
I suppose we are lucky that we only live 20 mins from Manchester airport.

Any further than 2-2.5 hours I wouldnt really consider it, I often choose to stay over the night before but on the way home I wouldnt wish to face a long drive so the savings wouldnt appeal to me at all

Just over an hour for us to Manchester, wouldn't want to face a 3 hour plus journey without an overnight stop if we had to fly from another airport.

Actually drove back home from Gatwick once, honestly don't know how I managed that!
