How far is your drive to WDW, Florida

It has taken us anywhere from 8.5 hrs to 10 hrs. 10 hrs when it was raining real hard and traffic was nearly at a stand still.

It's around 20-21 hours. We aren't going straight through, we are stopping at around 14 hours or so.

It would be about 34 hrs from here. We fly. For the ones that drive over 20 hrs, do you find that you really save alot of money with the price of gas now-a-days? DH and DD are driving to NS as I write this (37 hrs) and DH made a comment on the phone last night about it would almost be cheaper to fly with what its costing but DD is moving to NS and the van is packed so that wasn't an option. Was just curious on the savings.

thanks :)

For us, with a family of 6, I'm not 100% sure we will save more with gas but I think we will than the flights but it's also more about flexibility - we are on OUR timetable and not the airlines...so we don't have to worry about being delayed at the airport for any reason, we don't have to worry about them changing our flight times or cancelling our flight all together, I can pack what I want without worrying about if it's too heavy, etc...
Of course, we do have to worry about possible delays via traffic.

Plus, that way if we see something on the way we think is cool & want to check out, we can (we've been known to do mini sidetrips before that weren't planned on driving vacations).

It's a little over 1,300 miles for us. We did it straight through last year and it averaged about 22.5 hours.

It really wasn't that bad. I drove at night, my wife during the day. With a family of 5, we save $1,100 - $1,200 between airfare and mini-van rental. We're doing it again in about 2 weeks.

It's definitely not for everyone, but works for us.

What's your scenic route? We've always flown, but are considering driving from Bowling Green, KY. My DH hates the idea of non-stop interstate, so I'm trying to figure out more interesting options.

Thanks!

From St. Louis the drive is 1000 miles 14 hours. We travel in 2 days. We overnight in Atlanta - spend a little time with my brother and his family.

OK........my prediction is that, with a couple of exceptions, everyone who pulls all nighters driving is under 40 yrs old.

I'm in my 40s and I would probably become psychotic if I drove 20 hours straight.....:earseek:

All nighters.......I miss those days!!

If we drove it staight it would probably be about 11 or 12hrs. We always take two days because we have 2 small children so it helps to stop a lot. We usually stay the night in Lake City and then we get to MK around lunch time and go to DD for lunch. :earsboy: :earsgirl: princess: pirate:

Hey, I'm living her in Bowling Green too! It's really not a bad drive. We've done it in less that 12 hrs. on the weekend, straight thru and that was with stopping to eat for about an hour. We usually break it up into 2 days on the way there. Leave after school on a Friday and drive past Atlanta (get there about 10:30) and then leave out at 8 am the next day and are at WDW by 2:30 or so.

We've driven several times and the going there isn't bad, but the coming back is a pain.

Nice to meet you!

We're about 650 miles. Takes anywhere from 10 to 11.5 hours, depending on traffic and pit stops. Worst time ever: 15 hours running away from Hurricane Jeanne back in September! We usually leave about 3:30 and get there in time for a late lunch at the resort.

From North Alabama it's 670 miles from our driveway to the sign on World Drive :-)

It usually takes us 10 1/2 - 12 hours depending on who's with us.

(I've driven it solo in 9 1/2 hours, 1 stop for gas/restroom in Valdosta when the tank ran dry, approximately 75 mph the entire way)

Our biggest problem is no easy access over to I-75. We either have to take back roads down to I-20 east of B'ham or take I-65 through Birmingham, then I-20 East, or take I-65, then back roads down to I-10, or take US 72E all the way to Chattanooga, then I-75. If the Memphis/Atlanta Freeway EVER gets built, that will probably take 2 hours off our trip!!!

However with our new direct flights to Orlando that we can usually get for less than $150, we usually fly. Only have to be at our airport about an hour early, then a 90 minute flight. Now coming back home is another story because of the long lines at MCO.

Our worst trip home was the Sunday after Thanksgiving 2002, never broke 40 MPH on I-75N. Took us 14 hours from Ocala to home.

Hey, neighbor! Is Atlanta as far as you get the first day? We could probably leave in the a.m....I was thinking 8 hours the first day and then 3-4 the next day. Do you stay on the Interstate the whole time? And where do you stay "on the way"? I figure it wouldn't be so bad going to WDW because of the anticipation, but it probably is a big drag coming back. Ideally, I'd like to figure out a reasonable route where we could spend the first night at an ocean point before the 3-4 hour day.

Thanks!

About 8 hours from right outside Charleston SC.....thats a leisurley pace with sit down meals and sometimes a stop in Daytona to drive on the beach

we are exactly 1000 miles door step to door step...the trip takes 15 hours driving straight...we have made the drive about 15 times and we always say we're going to stop in Georgia somewhere and drive the rest in the morning, but, every time, we just get too excited and keep going...we usually leave our house around 2-3pm which gets us into the world around 5-6am...we love getting in this early in the morning as it has always worked wonderfully for getting the exact building or room locations at the resort...BTW, we usually don't go to sleep until later that night...we go straight to having fun....

Are you in the Edwardsville right outside St. Louis....I use to live in O'fallon my parent worked at Scott AFB and then in New Baden...I went to HS my freshman year at Mater Dei in Breese Ill....I miss it up that way

It's about 24hrs for us

my family rove for the longest time to save "$$$"

but it ended up being about the same.

We're from Liverpool, NY aka a walks distance from the city of Syracuse
