Most likely using a car service from MCO to WDW (and back) next February. I'm familiar with how early to book a car service here at home, but how early should I plan to book for Orlando?

Do you have to pay in advance? I'd have to imagine there are services that have cancellation policies.

We booked a round trip car service for our just returned trip, we were there May 9-18th.
I highly recommend Tiffany town car. we booked 2 weeks in advance, online form for putting in flight numbers, times and place you are going to, gave them a credit card number but they dont charge you until the day you arrive(they dont like to pre charge in case your flight or trip gets cancelled) They text you the day before each of your flights with the drivers picture and name and to confirm. I just reply great thank you.
Our driver for our arrival was there even before the expected time and she was fabulous, her name is Renata. She picked us up right at baggage claim. She texted us multiple times to check on us while waiting for baggage and i let her know when we had our bags. She had us at our resort in 1/2 hr.
they will happily stop at a grocery store if you need it, we did not.
On our return flight Eddie was also there early(but they will certainly wait), he also texted us and kept us in the loop. They pick you up 2 hours before your flight time and had us at the curb outside the ticket counter in 1/2 hr.
my hubbys co-worker has used them for 15 years and she has had great service every time and recommends them to everyone she knows going to WDW. We are certainly converts and will most happily use them every trip from now on. You can ask for drivers so a huge shout out to Eddie and Renata. They are the best!

Agree with @Katie1174. We’ve used Tiffany for every trip for years. And we usually take 3 trips a year. Had Renata a lot the first few years, she’s very nice. And the last several years, we have had Eddie almost every trip. He is the best. So friendly & likable. There have been a few other drivers too, just don’t remember their names. All drivers are very safe & the cars are the best kept of any of the car services we’ve tried. Immaculately clean & comfortable. Also, they are very accommodating if last minute changes need to be made. Absolutely recommend.

Thank you all! Tiffany is the car service I'd been leaning towards based on the reviews here, and particularly the piece about their communication. Sounds a lot like my preferred car service here for trips to Boston from NH.

Oh, I see I didn’t actually answer the question, lol. I usually reserve 2-4 weeks ahead, whenever I remember to do it. Never had a problem. Now with Magic Express ending 2022, I’m not sure how it will effect car services. If I was going early next year I would probably make sure to reserve about a month out, just to be on the safe side.

I have no idea what Mears DME replacement will look like. Prior to DME car rental rates were less expensive and resort parking was free. I think for a party of 3 or more car service will be cheaper and better then shared shuttle. I think for a party of 2, with a grocery stop, a car service will be a great alternative for shared shuttle. Worth a premium.

I think car service pricing may head up and supply could be tight. I'd consider booking a car service as soon after my plans were finalized. Flights and resort booked. Maybe not 6 months in advance but I don't think a couple of months would be bad.
