How far in advance do you start packing?

I'm glad I listened to all you early packers!

I started collecting underwear, PJs and swimming gear yesterday.......couldn't find DS's boardies?? "Where are your boardies?"......"uh, I dunno!" (standard 15 year old answer to almost anything.... :rotfl: )

So...I'm going shopping for board shorts today!

Love it! We're also going shopping for togs.

3 sleeps to go.

for my upcoming trip im going to pack a day or two before i leave I already have a packing list typed up and I only need to pack for myself so packing shouldn't take me too long but i want to wash all the stuff im going to pack before i pack so it will probably take me most of a day.

Gee - there really are a number of packing styles out there!!
I must admit I'm a bit of a combo of all of them. Luckily I only have to pack for me, but I also have the "travel drawer" where I put all the things I only use travelling and haul out before a big trip.
I can't pack a suitcase, though, until the dog has gone to kennels!! :sad2: She gets most upset at the sight of a suitcase! :guilty: So that means the case/s don't come out until the day before - for this trip it will be Wednesday. But I will have piles of clothes etc started, and washing hopefully all done well beforehand!

Like travel mum I want to take clothes out of circulation so I don't have piles of washing to do in the lead up to leaving. I also start out packing way too much initially so frequently go through everything and cull things as time goes on. I have already started gathering things for the trip but haven't physically put them in a suitcase lol. I am planning on shopping heaps so we are aiming to have everything fit into carry ons so we can fill the suitcases with what we've bought :cool1:

In line with our recent trip being booked with 3 weeks notice, we packed the night before and shopped a little while the kids were at school the day before for a few bits. We do however try to go light and buy up in the USA , particularly dw and the dk's as everything is so cheap.

Hmmmm, weeks beforehand for me :rotfl2:. Obviously there is much that can't be packed until the day before but I'm usually adding things for 2-3 weeks beforehand - cause I'm mental. :rotfl:

Me too - last trip I started packing about a month before we were due to go. DH always laughs at my enthusiasm - he couldn't understand why his clothes were missing/packed! ;)

I''m another month-or-three in advance packer for big trips. I collect, cull, pack, cull, add, cull, etc until about the day before. I collect stuff as I go as I wash and put them in the suitcases. There is no real order as I go, but I sometimes find I've got twice as many shorts or tops or whatever than anything else...

I make a general list of what we need before packing, then about a week out DD and I sort through things to work out what we have or don't have and go from there. Then I go through the cull, pack, cull cycle again.

I really don't have a life...:sad2:

But I'm going to Melbourne for a week next Saturday and haven't given a thought as to what to pack - I'll wait until closer to the date and see what the weather is expected to do.

I leave DH to do his own packing. There's less argument that way and more of "I told you so" (from me ) when he packs the wrong thing... He wouldn't listen to me about what to pack for our first ever cruise so he had only one good shirt and one pair of jeans for the entire trip to wear for dinner every night. But of course, it was then MY fault for not telling him there was a formal night AND that you couldn't wear shorts to dinner...

Good luck with that :upsidedow
It never knows what it's doing...
