How far in advance do you plan your trips?

I start dreaming of the next trip as I'm on the plane flying home. Once I'm reasonably sure we'll be able to go when I want, I start planning dates and resorts. The current trip will be our last family trip while dd is still in high school. I'm trying to hit the off-week between fall high school sports and winter sports. It's still 227 days out so I haven't even narrowed down which resort yet, but I'm close! The reading and planning are fun for me so I like to spread it out over a long time frame.

After this trip in November, we're going to take 2017 off and return in the fall of 2018 to celebrate my 30th birthday.

I started planning our first trip 18 months out. I started thinking about our second trip as soon as we came back, but only started really planning in the last few weeks, so 18 months out again. I know lots can happen in thwt time, but I'm on a tight budget wnd need to know (roughly) how much to save and how much to tell other people to save.

I work in the Hotel industry and can see and believe in the old adage; if ya want something done and done right - PLAN AHEAD.:goodvibes

So, with that - i plan two years in advance.

When DH offered to take me to Paris for 2 weeks for my 50th birthday (before 9/11) he let me know a full year in advance because he knows for me a great deal of fun is in the planning! It was awesome and because we planned so well we were able to do and see things many other travelers did not get to do.
So, I'm with ya! Planning allows me never to say, "ohhh, too bad, I didn't even know we could've done that!" I'm just not a seat of the pants kind of lady! Lol

For my first trip, which was April 2015, I planned about 16 months out. After we fell in love with the world and said our tearful goodbyes my then 4 year old son said, "When are we coming back?" In that moment I decided we'd go back in 2018 when his little brother is 4, a fantastic age IMO. So I guess that makes it 3 years! We go on road trips in between, but Disney is "the big one". We also have decided to do Disney by land and sea in 2020...but that's in the hopes that Star Wars will be complete by then. As I browse the boards daily, I feel better about taking this reprieve. Hopefully by 2018, a lot of new construction will be complete (except Star Wars of course).
