I swear I've asked this before but I cannot find the thread, so sorry for asking again. How far before your wedding did you send out invitations? I'm thinking 4 mos at the least. My aunt (who is a wedding planner at a high end place in Boston) swears that 6-8 weeks is enough. This seems insane to me! If I wait until 8 weeks out to send the invite with all of the booking info that means people likely won't be booking until 6 weeks out and we're planning for March; one of the busiest seasons. They'd be lucky to get any room by 6 weeks out. Not to mention we're doing the carribean beach resort and that tends to book up @ 3 mos out. All of the google searches I've done say that you need to send out an invite for a destination wedding at least 4 mos in advance, if not more. That was my thinking. My H says to do it now, we're just under 7 mos out.
So when did you send your invites? Did people appreciate them being sent earlier than 6-8 weeks in advance? Do you agree that 6-8 weeks is way too close or am I just being silly?

(and we invited 109 people...). I mailed the invites out two months ahead with a deadline that was a month later, giving us a week before final payment. I had quite a few people tell me that they were waiting to RSVP because they didn't know if they could make it. There are still dozens of people who have not made hotel reservations. The DFTW guy told me that tends to be the norm for people to wait until the last minute. I just figure I tried and if people miss out on a discount or have to stay somewhere else than that is their fault - there's only so much you can do.
