How far do you drive?

I know someone who drives straight through from northern Illinois to Florida every year, but I would never do so. Such a drive seems way too unpleasant and dangerous (from being too tired).

If you really want want to drive to Florida after the end of the your work day, consider driving for 4 hours or so to a location where you have a hotel reservation at a decent inexpensive hotel (such a Fairfield Inn or Holiday Inn Express). Then resume your drive the next morning when you're alert.

Some people can do it, some cant. My job requires a great deal of sleepless nights. When I do go to bed, 6-7 hours is all i need.

While I have done the 16 hours by myself straight thru, generally, my wife does the first 5 hours or so while i catch a nap. I pick up at 10pm and power on till sunset.

Then she takes over again. so in general

4 hours = wife
8 hours = me
4 hours = wife

we've done the whole 17 hours from Chicagoland a few times(last time our daughter was 3), going to do it on the way back this trip.

On the way down however we are stopping in Macon, GA. about 12 hours drive, the next day would only be about 4 hours to St. Augustine for lunch(seafood) and the beach, then about 2 hours to Orlando to check in. Our daughter is 7 this trip, leaving at approx. 10 p.m., driving through the night(she can sleep) then stopping in Macon around noon to eat lunch, then hopefully check into the room for a swim and a then early dinner.

Leaving at night to allow the others in the car to sleep for a good chunk of the miles.

We have traveled this same route many times (we're in NW Indiana)...including St Augustine! We love it there!! For some reason we always stop at the Sonic in Macon, and stay at the hotel next door...creatures of habit I guess.

We also drive from the Chicago o'hare area we stop just passed Macon weather permitting leaving bright and early the next day to have a afternoon check in at one time we drove straight thru but we were so tired when we arrived we just slept on arrival day now that we stay over night the first day is not wasted due to a lack of sleep

If we drive it's 1100 miles one way. But honestly with the mileage my car gets, the number of hotels we need along the way (usually three total: halfway there on the trip down, an offproperty room when we get to Orlando the night before our package starts and one halfway home on the return drive), plus all those meals while on the road... it's becoming a better deal for us to fly.

figured macon would be a good place to stop, mall,a couple interesting restaurants, 12 hours +/-, Room in Macon is more expensive than the one in Orlando..

also never been to St. Augustine, figured it would be a fun place to get some seafood for lunch and maybe an hour at the beach before we head to our hotel near Disney. Sonic... lol we are looking forward to Waffle House..
