How far are the Redwoods??

Hi All, We are planning a Spring trip to LA and Disney in April.....feeling like we also want to see the redwoods/sequoias.....how far from LA do we have to go to see them?? Looks like 5 or so hours on a map........any tips??? Thanks!!! Wendy

Yup, about 5 hours. You can either head up to Sequoia Natl Park, which is about 5 hours from Anaheim, to see the giant sequoias. Or you can head up Highway 1 to the Big Sur coast to see the redwoods. For the latter trip, I know you can find redwoods as far south as Limekiln State Park, just south of Lucia, which Google shows to be about 5 1/2 hours north of Anaheim. I know they've petered out by the time you get down to Hearst Castle / San Simeon; so I suspect that Limekiln is about as far south as you can find them.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is near Arnold, which is about 7 hrs. from Los Angeles.

Exactly. Besides, the sequoias at Sequoia and Kings Canyon are bigger.

If the OP want to see sequoia giganteum (giant sequoias), she should head to Sequoia / Kings Canyon. If she wants to see sequoia sempervirens (giant redwoods), as the title suggests, then she should head up the Big Sur coast on Highway 1. Though I pointed out that Limekiln is just 5 1/2 hours up the coast, if it were me, I'd head all the way up to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and the town of Big Sur. It's only another 1/2 hour (6 hours total), and there's a lot more to see there, and a whole lot of redwoods. If you go that far, also ask the rangers for directions to Pfeiffer Beach, which is just a couple miles away and one of the most spectacular beaches I've ever seen (and I'm pretty well travelled).
