How far ahead did you request a server?

My kids fell in love with our servers on our cruise in march 2019. We will be sailing on the fantasy again next August. I know the chances are slim they'll still be partnered up, or that they're still on the ship, but for those who have requested servers, how far in advance did you add the request to your reservation?

You can add it as far in advance as you'd like. Make sure you make only one request such as "this server", "that asst server" or a particular rotation and not for a team. If you make multiple requests. DCL may just pick one to fulfill or none due to not being able to get that combination for you.

Thanks. yes, we were going to request the server as 1st choice and the assistant as 2nd choice. :) We would be thrilled with either of them.

As soon as I booked our next cruise I had the CM put the request in my dining notes. We were able to be matched with the asst. server. The main server was gone on holiday.

For those who are wondering how close you can do it, we were on the Wonder in March 2019, loved our assistant server, and then requested him about 5 weeks before our Alaska cruise on the Wonder and we were granted the request.

Has anyone ever just requested an experienced/highly rated server team?

We manage food allergies and while we didn't have issues on our last cruise (Dream 4 nights), I've since read a few stories of situations I'd like to avoid, if possible, by getting a team that is used to dealing with these situations.

I have not made that specific request, but I don’t think it’s an unreasonable one. When the dining room managers are creating the seating assignments, they do look at the requests. And a request for an experienced server team is, I think, something that could be accommodated.

So we have main dining and want a private table. Can we also put in a request for a server or should I cut our losses and hope for the best?

It would be best to request what's most important to you - either a table for your party alone (not truly "private") or a specific server.

Typically, if you make more than one request DCL doesn't sort out either/or requests, and if you've made more than one request, they don't honor either request, because they "don't know which is more important to you).

You sure can put in both requests. Disney will of course try to honor one of them if you make more than one request. You may wish to help them by telling them what is more important, but they will never just ignore you if you ask for a couple of special requests.

On several occasions I immediately I requested my own table and one of my favorite servers as soon as I boarded the ship.

I must have the worse luck. My last 10 cruises I’ve requested a table for the 2 of us and a particular server. I’ve never gotten either, ever! My last cruise was our 30th anniversary and had to share it with another couple. While they were lovely, only one spoke English so was awkward silent during dinner at times. 🤷‍♀️

Do you have first or second seating? Seems to be easier to accommodate private tables at the second seating.

Unless it is a totally full ship. Then it is next to impossible. :(

thanks everyone! I called yesterday and added our request(s). Easy Peasy :)
