How early to sign up for Jedi Training Academy?

My son is so excited about doing this again now that they have updated it. Would love to hear how it has changed if any one had also done it prior.
We've done the old version, the SWW version and the new version.
The show now is more like the show they had during Star Wars weekends
Two groups fight, one fights with Darth Vadar and the other the Sixth Sister.
They have added elements from Star Wars Rebels in to the show, where Jedi are a legend
And instead of Darth Maul coming out they have Kylo Ren, complete with a tantrum.

On our trip this week, we went straight to TSM because we didn't have a fast pass and by the time we made it through there and back to the sign up by Indiana Jones there was a line backed up maybe 100 people deep and heard people talking that it was already full... My son was heart broken... Learned my lesson..

We also were at the park at RD...
This is now more the exception than the rule, where before it was the other way around.
But yes, at any day it could fill. You never know what group may come with a ton of kids that all want to do it and you never know what day will have few kids that want to do it.
The only smart option if it's a must do is to show up well before rope drop

Couple of questions...
1. Do my kids have to be with me when i sign them up?
2. Do we have to stay at DHS until the show? (wanting to do epcot in the morning, DHS and the Jedi training in the evening)

thanks!!

1. Yes. They require your kids to be present. If they look young enough, they will ask them their age and if they are prepared to go on stage.
2. No. Just be back to check in at least 30 minutes before your kids' show time.

What is the latest show available? We have a PPO so don't anticipate issues signing up, but I'd like to try to avoid peak heat. Would a first or last show be best for that?

Are they still letting people without a PPO in early to sign up? We plan on being there very early before RD, and hoping to be let in to sign up before they let the rest of the RD crowd in.

First show is 10:10a. It'll be hot, but not peak heat. Last show is 7:40p. Probably your best bet to avoid the heat.

This is what I learned from our experience.
First, getting there at park opening was too late. We needed to be there super early!
Line was really long, and they weren't telling anyone if they would make it in that day. So get there early.

Once you get in to sign up, they ask the kiddo if they can follow directions, listen, etc to kinda judge if the kid wants to do Jedi. They also ask kiddos age. So, you need your kid to sign, although I saw some parents run to get a spot and have kid join them a second later in line (which I had no issue with)

A month ago we arrived around 8:20 (no PPO ADR), probably got to the entrance about 8:25ish, got immediately let in for sign ups. Probably took us about 5 minutes to get back to the line and it was already 40 minutes long. So I'm not sure when the others had been let in but I'd suggest getting there around 8 to be right up front.

Awesome! Thanks!!! We don't have a problem being there extra early to get signed up and get that out of the way!

We just returned from a quick trip. On July 9th we were not planning to sign my ds for the Jedi Training but around 2 pm we walked by it and he wanted to do it, so we went over to the sign ups and there were plenty of afternoon and evening spots still available. We signed up for the 7:10 show which ended up getting rained out.
