How does "virtual queue" work?

I really want to ride Remy next trip. But it's virtual queue-does that mean I can't just get up and get in line? So how does this work? What time do I get in the queue on MDE? And what does it mean when I get a number? Like, suppose I have #55 (just picked a number at random for example). Can I figure out roughly when I'll get "called"? Late morning, late afternoon, when? And then, what happens next? Anything else I should know? I don't plan to spend the money for Lightening Lane or anything else. Am I correct that this "virtual queue" is free? What happened to the good ole' days when you just got in line for a ride?

You are correct in your assumptions. A virtual queue means your wait time is done virtually while riding other rides, dining, etc. There is no stand by. When you get a boarding pass, there should be an estimated wait time, though not always accurate. Once it's your time to ride, you'll receive a push notification which gives you a 1 hour return time to get back to the ride and check in. And yes, virtual queue is free.

As far as just getting in line, this is a new way of preventing long lines at new attractions. Star wars rise of the Resistance really needed it to manage ride break downs, I don't think it's as big of an issue with Remy's though. I doubt this VQ stays around long and will switch to stand by line soon, but there's been no indication when this will happen.

Thanks. So will I get an estimated return time when I get the virtual queue? My biggest fear is that I'll just go around the park all day, and I could be called for the ride at any time-like when I'm dining, going to the restroom, perhaps I'm tired and done for the day. Or, I read that there's two times for virtual queues, one at 7:00, and the other at 1:00. Does that mean that if you get a boarding group at 7:00, you're at least guaranteed that you're going to get called before 1:00?

Yes, you should see the estimated return time once you get the boarding group. Generally speaking, if you get one at 7, you should ride by mid-afternoon, barring any major shutdown of the ride. I don't think I've seen this too much though.

If you're called while eating, or you have an ADR conflict, if you have time to head to the ride to talk to them, do it, otherwise, just do your dining reservation and then head to the ride and show them your receipt. If you happened to be out of the park taking a break, just explain the situation. Most CMs are Sympathetic and allow you on, though some can be strict. However, I think these situations happen a lot less than people think they might. ☺️

I do not like virtual que at all. I have tried at least nine time to get on Rise of the resistance. I can never get a boarding pass. I am a elderly woman and no one will ever help me. It has been terrible . I love to go to and spend a lot of money also like everyone else I can never get on this ride. I think Disney is turning into a nightmare. (hope I am wrong).

Do both parties have to be in EPCOT if park hopping to get in the virtual queue at 1pm?

Does each person have to have Genie and go into queue? Or can I put my three person travel party into the queue?

IF you get a VQ , you can ride anytime after the number is called, not just in the window. My personal experience last week was able to get #5 at 7AM and called at just after opening but due to delays was not able to go until 3:30 PM and was told no problem. Others have reported same experience here that VQ can be used anytime after time is called.
I found the big problem with VQ was the wait time after in line 45 minutes one time and 30 minutes the other.
