How does trading work?

Hi,
I have looked at the stickies on the rent / trade board but they are a bit complicated to be honest. Does this sort of thing happen...

DVC member A owns at, say, BW but wants to stay at WL at a "peak time of year", so he/she finds member B who owns at WL. They then make the respective reservations at 11 months out, and use each others reservations, perhaps with a cash payment for any points difference?

Is this sort of thing common? It would seem a good way of trying out non-home resorts.

It's not a common thing for those who use the DIS Rent/Trade Forum, but it is possible.

Seems most who post here prefer to take their chances at the 7 month window or they arrange for a point transfer (with a transfer, you have control over the points and the reservation).

Finding the right combo of points and desires is difficult but some have done it. I'd say renting your points and then renting from another member is easier and far more likely to be successful.
