How does ToT compare to other free fall rides at other parks?

In my opinion ToT is a better free fall, because with other free fall rides I have experienced, you know exactly what is happening and when... With ToT, if you go with an unsuspecting friend, or you're a first timer, you don't know exaclty what to expect or when! I have ridden ToT many, many, many times and still get nervous when I know the fall will be coming shortly.

It just builds the anticipation. But the hieght of 13 stories? Couldn't help ya there, sorry!

Keep in mind that I am used to Cedar Point rides like the Power Tower.

The TOT at Disney is an AWESOME ride, however, the fall itself is rather weak. Sure they bounce you around a few times, but the thrill factor on a scale of 1-10 in my opinion is about a 6. And I'm not too keen on heights. The ride is awesome though, and probably my favorite ride at Disney World, because of the theming. Its a definite must do and chances are you'll want to do it again and again. Its one of those rides you wont get sick on at all so you can do it repeatedly, and it has perhaps the best line to wait in of any attraction there. Its more an experience then a super thrill, but its still thrilling if that makes sense? lol It's 4 am so I doubt it did! :) If you go with someone who had not rode it before, like the above poster said, be ready for a sudden drop! That is what gets you! If you've been on it dozens of times though when you get into complete black start counting at your own pace and when it drops youll know when it will fall the next time. :wizard:

I always thought of a story as 10 feet. I assumed ToT is a 130 foot drop....
Not sure if that's a fact tho :confused3

I don't think you drop the entire 13 stories, someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

Yes, a story is considered to be 10', so it would be 130'. And I think there is a drop sequence that drops you pretty much the whole way. But, because you're being 'pulled' rather than dropped it might not feel like the whole distance. But, I could be wrong.

I've found Tower of Terror to be far more intense than those other freefall rides.

Those other freefall rides, aren't really freefal. At least not the one's I've been on. (To give an example that I think others may know about - Dr. Doom's Fearfall at Universal)

It's a huge thrill going up, but then they just kind of glide you down gently.

Tower of Terror doesn't just fall - it PULLS you down, so you fall faster than gravity. Hence the reason your butt flies up an off the seat! :)

I am terrified of heights for the main reason of falling. I do roller coasters because they are moving, but if one stops I feel great panic...............now I have done the FreeFall at Six Flags and felt like I was going to die and have not been back on in years. After two seasons of watching my family love the new Acrophobia I decided to try it, it pulls you up and you can't see what you are attached to, push you forward so you are looking down and then free fall drops you. It was horrifying, like they put me on the ledge of a building and pushed me. I will never ride it again !!!!!

My point is I am very afraid of those types of rides and I thought ToT was very mild. On a scarry, thrill ride scale of 10 I put it at a 4-5. It is a mental ride, the darknesss, not knowing when you will fall, and all the screaming of the others before you even get on it. All you have to do is look at their minimal "restraining" set up and you can tell that it is a tame ride.

Stupid question alert :rolleyes1

Ok, so you say that your butt flies off the seat, is my 40 pound 6 yr old dd going to fly out :earseek: We will be on our first trip so I have no idea about the restraining systems

LOL hopper fan. I hate freefall but the kids love it so I ride it. I will not get on acrophobia. Good thing DS was old enought to want to ride by himself when it opened. DD can't wait to be tall enough.

OP.... I hate drop rides but love TOT. since it is inclosed I dont' feel unsafe. Funny thing is I love coasters, especially looping ones. I just hate big drops. I've had to devise a few tricks to get though the big drop on coasters. I usually end up finding somehtign to focus on for the big drop, like the headrest infront of me.

If they meet the ride requirements, you should be ok. They use seatbelts.

even when they just had the lap bar DD was very safe. she did get a little air time.

Ok good. She is plenty tall enough 45 inches, shes just a skinny little thing :)
Plus, there is a ceiling to the ToT ride cage, so if she does fly up, she won't go too far.... ;)

IMHO, ToT is like a lot of other Disney "thrill" rides: while they are not as extreme as those at other parks (and I grew up in MI, so I know Cedar Pointe), they make up for it in theming and total experience.

I suppose it depends which ride sequence you get. Sometimes you 'fall' the entire length of the ride, sometimes the stop mid-way then they either drop you again or shoot you back up before dropping you, etc.

I will say that Cedar Point's Power Tower is much worse in my opinion. The side that slowly takes you to the top then waits a moment before dropping you scares the daylights out of me. The side that shoots you up is no problem but there's something about just sitting way up at the top of that tower waiting to be dropped that gets to me. *shudder* But I just keep doing it...

TOT is one of the best attractions at WDW. The theming of the building, the story, the library, it is so great. I don't think the drops are a complete surprise. When your elevator moves horizontally you know the vehicle is moving into the drop shaft. The surprise is that you don't completely know how many drops you are going to get. :earsboy:

I guess how many feet is 13 stories???
1 wtc center was 110 stories - and approximately 1360 feet so just over twelve feet a story. So assuming the same ratio.... 13 stories is about 156 feet

I'll be doing ToT for the first time when I am there for the college program in the fall. A friend of mine has convinced me to do it. I HATE drops but I want to at least give it a try. Hopefully I'll be okay :earseek:

From my experience and what I saw about the ride on the Travel Channel, ToT only puts you in true freefall (and greater than freefall) for a few seconds. Almost immediately after the car is pulled away from you it begins falling slower than gravity (10 m/s^2) so you fall back into the seat, but still accelerating downward. I do not think there is a sequence that drops you the entire 13 floors, more like 8 from my estimate and you begin a serious slow down before that. Some sequences really slow the car down fast and shoot it back upwards so you are squashed into the seat for a good 8 seconds.

Just for a reference Cedar Points Power Tower sends you down or up 240 feet.

In Marineland Niagara Falls they just build a ride called Sky Screamer that sends you up\down 450 feet. That beats them all.

ToT is nothing compared to these two rides in terms of intense thrill.

But I still like ToT the best because it’s just a fun ride.
