How does the wait list for BCV add-ons work?

DH gave me a small add-on at BCV for Christmas:woohoo: ! We are on the wait list, and although he says we were #34 on the waitlist, then #1, but now #who knows what- because other contracts were filled before ours. According to our guide, the larger contracts get filled first. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it matter that my guide is in CA instead of FL?

Thanks-:flower3:

Wonder if they were talking about a general wait list for BCV or a wait list for a specific use year?

No idea- DH was speaking to our guide as this was a gift. We are June UY, however.

Does anyone know, is the waitlist automated, or is it filled by guides? DH says he called our guide the first week of December, and the feeling he gets is that if we really want the points, we need to be a squeeky wheel. When the points come in, do the guides have the ability to fill whoever they want to, or is it out of their hands?:confused3 Does a more aggressive guide have they ability to fill their contracts before a less assertive one?

I do know that the waitlist is use-year specific. Each use year has its own waitlist, because when DVD gets points back (from ROFR or whatever) those points keep their use year. They can't be changed into whatever use year is needed.

I'm not sure about how much influence your guide has on getting you the points, or moving you on the wiatlist, if that can even be done. When I was on a waitlist last year, my guide could not tell me what number I was on the waitlist, and he could not tell me how long the wait would be.

I don't think it is correct that people waiting for larger amounts of points get their waitlists first. I have heard that someone waiting for, say 200 points would be offered 150 if they became available, and if they wanted to wait for the whole 200, then those 150 points would instead be offered to someone who wanted less. Not sure how true that last part is.

From past threads, I have heard that this happens. DVC can split up contracts for a particular use year and offer whatever points are available for those in that use year. If you take some, then you can waitlist for the rest. Other times, it all comes in, and it shows up on your dvcmember account.

Also, it is my understanding that some use years, such as December, have a longer waiting list than other use years.

Put in a call to the guide and ask these very good questions that you have. You may have to be squeeky wheel.

I don't think it would be in the hands of guides to determine the distribution of add-on points beyond placing a member onto the waitlist for the specific resort and use year. Waitlists are probably then handled through some area of admin. And my impression regarding waitlisting is, like chatchdvc's post mentions, that for whatever particular UY if the member waitlisted as #1 wants 200 points but 150 comes in DVC will give #1 the option of taking those 150 & then still continue on waitlist for additional 50; but should #1 opt to wait for the full 200 pts then DVC will continue on down list for that UY so if #'s 2, 3 & 4 each were waiting on 50 then that 150 pts would be divided among them, etc.

Again, while I can't say for 100% certain but this is how I've understood waitlisting for points works. These are interesting questions you bring up & hope you'll post back if you learn more details on this process. I know that I'd like to find out for certain how DVC does this.

Congratulations on your add-on, that's an awesome gift !!

:goodvibes

My guide told me how many people were ahead of me on the WL but explained that it wasn't that helpful to know because of the varying number of points people ahead of me were looking for. I was the only one wanting 25 points, which she said should be should be to my advantage. I got the first add-on in 4 days. The second one, for another 25 points, took about a month (December UY). I do know that the waitlist is UY specific.

Thank-you, everyone, for such wonderful insight! What you are all describing IS what I thought the process was- so when the guide told my DH that even though we were #1 on the June list, we were bumped because larger contracts are filled first...well, it just is contrary to anything I've read here, and it makes me wonder...

I am not in a HUGE rush for these points- although sooner is always better than later:goodvibes - but I would like to get them before a possible price increase or, worse yet, before I could bank any '08 points at the end of February!

Thanks so much- and if anyone else has any input, I'm all ears!! I did email my guide today (she was nice enough to send a lithograph so DH could surprise me on Christmas morning- which is now in a place of honor on our mantle:love: ) and hope to hear back from her soon, but it is the holidays, so I'll be patient!

And yes, 5forDiz, it is the AWESOMEST gift!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Ellen

I think I remember that they let me bank my add-on points beyond the deadline, but I could be wrong about that.

Edit: They did! I just checked the web site, and I banked December 2007 points on August 27, 2008.

OK- so then I would normally have until the end of January to bank June points, but they may give some leeway with that? Good to know- I'll have to add it to my list of ?s for my guide- thanks!

Hope this story of our experience will help:

I've done two BCV add-on's, both thru Disney, both for 50 points. The first was July 2007 and the second was 3 weeks ago, in early December--a couple of days after we got home from our 2008 T-giving trip (I left Disney 12/2 and our guide called me a couple of days after I got home, in response to the message I'd left him while still at Disney)--We have a Feb UY.

The first time (July 2007) our guide told me only that he honestly didn't know how long it would take...but I gave him a range for the number of points I wanted/needed (40-50)...It took five weeks; we could have bought fewer than 50 (but I bought all 50)...I banked them immediately...but no "special" process was needed because I was well within my banking "rights" at the time time (this was before the change to 100% banking for the first 8 months and nothing thereafter)...

This last time, I told our guide I was buying for the sole purpose of making an 11-month reservation at BCV for T-giving of 2009, so I needed the points by 12/20 (or for him to use his "magic" to get us in at BCV if the points came thru after the 11-month window opened)...I needed 2008 points for the reservation, so I double-checked that I'd be allowed to bank newly-purchased points even tho I was past 2008 points banking deadlines...I did bank them, the same day I bought them...no problems at all doing that...it's standard procedure for newly-purchased points and MS knows it...I also told our guide that I wouldn't buy the 50 BCV points unless I could use them to make a T-giving 2009 reservation...

Our guide made no promises about his ability or inability to get us a reservation if the points came thru after the 11-month window...all he said was if it turned out to be necessary, he'd see what he could do...said to hold on and he'd check the waitlist...told me only 3 folks were ahead of me for Feb UY points...also told me that due to demand for BCV, Disney is "buying up all BCV points" so he was "hopeful" that my W/L would come thru "in time."

It did. I bought the points. I made my T-giving reservation on the first day of the 11-month window opening.

Hope this helps!!

The OP mentioned something about the price increase. If she is already on the waiting list, will Disney honor that she was on the list before the price increase? I thought I had heard something like that on the Dis boards.

Yes, that does help- very encouraging- thanks!

From your post to God's eyes!:thumbsup2 I'm going to call my guide tomorrow or Monday, when the holidays are finally finished. I'll post back with what she says.

I called my guide in July 08 for BeachClub. I needed 75-100 points. He told me it might take up to 4 months. It took 2 months. I received 75 points in Sept with banking allowed, I have a Oct Uy. It was like getting a years free points.
