How does the system choose points taken for new use year reservation?

I have points remaining from 2021 which have not yet been banked. The reservation will be in my 2022 use year.

Will points for the reservation be automatically pulled from the 2021 points or do I need to bank those points before making the reservation for them to be used before the 2022 points?

You need to bank them first.

When you go to book, it will give you an option to bank points but it will not automatically do it.

You can do it ahead of time as well. I sometimes only bank some just in case.

When I bank later, I then modify and reallocate them. As long as you don’t need to borrow because you didn’t bank, either way will work.
