Wow! My mom is very smart and works for a large company as a Revenue Recognition Analyst. She works SO much and yet she gets maybe 5 days of vacation a year tops. I don't understand it![]()
Most companies, I thought, that were big professional type of comapnies gave people 2 weeks to start and then you earned more from there based on lenght of service.
I've been a my company for 13 years....I currently get 4 weeks and 2 personal choice days.
We are self-employed and can do most of our work via laptop, cell. So we can be away but must work occasionally while we are on vacation.

That's what I thought too! But they only give her a few days for each holiday per year. She gets Easter off, the 4th of July (she didn't last year but she does at her new company), I think two days for Thanksgiving then Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I don't get it because she works so hard. It's really not fair. I wish we could take a longer trip!
Besides federal or state labor law there really is no "fair" in the workplace. It sounds like you are seeing an important lesson that people work for a "compensation package" and not an hourly wage. Finding out (and negociating) benefits is one of the most important steps when weighing where to work.
For me personally at one hospital for anything over 2 weeks off, you had to take a LOA! My current hospital allows up to 6 weeks off (if you have the PTO). I did one of those last summer.

good luck
I might sound a little frustrated since I am often competing for nurses etc....who can't see the value of our excellent benefits and accept a job somewhere else for another 1.50 an hour ! People need to be taught some life skills in school.
oops you were too quick T&S mom!
I have been with the same company for 12 years and get 6 weeks of vacation per year. I never take that much so I usually have a bunch built up.
DH owns his own business, as do my parents so if it were not for college (DS) high school (DD) and money(or lack thereof lol) we would be able to spend as long as we wanted...darn college, school and money!!![]()
I just want to run away to the Bahamas or something where I don't have any responsibilities! My last job I had 5 weeks of vacation. Now I'm PT, so I just pretty much vacation when I want....I don't get paid for them, but I have flexibility.
I probably took about 8-10 weeks of vacation last year.
DH has 4 weeks, plus some floating days.
8 -10 weeks??! Wow!
