How does early entry work on checkout day?

I'm only staying one night at Universal. I'll be coming in late afternoon, getting up early for early entry, and then pretty much staying through park close.

That means I'll have to check out early morning before heading to the park. How do I prove my early entry eligibility without a room key? Or are they the card-style that you can just keep?

Awesome, that makes sense. So I can check out, keep the key, and head to the parks and only return to get my luggage in the evening, right?
