Can someone fill me in on the Hoop Dee Doo? We are staying at FWL in March and I am hearing so much about this. What is it?
It's a dinner entertainment show. There is country style singing, dancing, some slapstick humor and some audience participation. It's very corny, very G-rated, and very disney. They serve family-style (non-buffet) all you can eat dinner. It's fried chicken and ribs (pork, I think; not sure), corn and desert. The food is average, IMO.
It's extremely popular. I think it's good to do once because of the setting -- going to Poineer Hall (particularly by boat if staying at a monorail resort or coming from MK). Many familes swear by it, going every year. I think it's something to do once. I don't think the show is that good. In fact, some of the entertainment provided in the parks for free (other than admission) is better -- like the Lion King show at AK. I even thought the old Diamond Horeshoe vaudeville show was pretty much just as good at the MK.
The cost is exhorbitant -- maybe not by disney standards but in the abstract. It's about $50 for adults and somewhere around half that for 3-9.
This post is a little more negative than it should be. It's very fun to do at least once, and you have to eat dinner anyway so take that into account for the cost. But for my money, I'd rather eat at Chef Mickey's and then take the boat over to FW for the free campfire sing-a-long.
