I was just wondering since this is our first time going to the Hoop dee doo. Do they have a boat that leaves from the Contemporary? I thought I read something about that. We will be driving from the Boardwalk. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

From allearsnet.com:

Non-Fort Wilderness guests can drive, take the boat from the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge or Magic Kingdom or take a bus from the Ticket and Transportation Center.

If you are driving from the Boardwalk you would park at FW guest parking and then take the internal FW bus from the reception outpost to the Settlement Trading Post. From there it is a short walk to the Hoop Dee Doo show.

There are a couple of way to get to FW from BW by car... the easiest would probably be to head toward the MK parking lot... right after going through the toll stay to the far right and make the first right. This road will brin you to FW. Take the 2nd left... the first is for guest check in and the 2nd should be guest parking.

Can someone fill me in on the Hoop Dee Doo? We are staying at FWL in March and I am hearing so much about this. What is it?

It's a dinner entertainment show. There is country style singing, dancing, some slapstick humor and some audience participation. It's very corny, very G-rated, and very disney. They serve family-style (non-buffet) all you can eat dinner. It's fried chicken and ribs (pork, I think; not sure), corn and desert. The food is average, IMO.

It's extremely popular. I think it's good to do once because of the setting -- going to Poineer Hall (particularly by boat if staying at a monorail resort or coming from MK). Many familes swear by it, going every year. I think it's something to do once. I don't think the show is that good. In fact, some of the entertainment provided in the parks for free (other than admission) is better -- like the Lion King show at AK. I even thought the old Diamond Horeshoe vaudeville show was pretty much just as good at the MK.

The cost is exhorbitant -- maybe not by disney standards but in the abstract. It's about $50 for adults and somewhere around half that for 3-9.

This post is a little more negative than it should be. It's very fun to do at least once, and you have to eat dinner anyway so take that into account for the cost. But for my money, I'd rather eat at Chef Mickey's and then take the boat over to FW for the free campfire sing-a-long.

Biddler,
You know, don't you, that the Hoop Dee Doo is at Fort Wilderness (FW) not the Wilderness Lodge (WL). They are 2 different resorts.

You can also walk from the Wilderness Lodge, there is a lit path to walk on.

To get to the Hoop De Doo from the Contemporary take the small boat service that runs the Contemporary/Wilderness Lodge/Fort Wilderness route. Get off at Fort Wilderness. Walk up the marina and up slightly to the right to Pioneer Hall. This is a very short walk--maybe 3 minutes from the dock. This is the easiest way to get there. Have fun--the HDD is a blast!
