How do you update Pal Mickey?

I would encourage everyone to contact disney directly about what can and cant be done with the original pal before buying into the blatent lies that seem to be posted here frequently. I would also encourage people to visit the website for pal mickeys grown up pals club. Very knowledgeable people when it comes to pal mick. One poster is a disney cm.

Hmmm...not sure I understand the "blatant lies" remark but I can tell you from blatant live experience that I bring my old Pal Mickey to the parks every year and load the new information easily by pointing his nose at the front gate, as instructed by the CMs.

Exactly what new information do you get when you update your old pal? There is some info that does get updated other information does not and this is where people are being mislead *lied to*.

I would encourage people to speak tactfully also...lies are deliberately misleading someone,giving out the best info you have at the time is not a lie.

This thread is great, I didn't know he could be updated. What batteries does he use? Does he talk loud enough for you to hear?

He takes double A batteries- always pack extras, he tends to go through them... He is a bit hard to hear much of the time, we just held him close to our ears,and had no problem- he alerts you with something new by vibrating,like a phone, so that's no problem- I hope you enjoy yours!

Saying things have been done to you pal mickey that disney itself says cannot be done is a blatent lie. I havent called anyone out on any of the post about pal mickey on this message board only given people the true information and pointed them in the right direction for more information. When a disney cm that is very knowledgeable about pal mickey and the disney website itself says something cant be updated on pal mickey then yes the people on here are lying. Some things can be updated other stuff cannot.
As far as volume the newer version is slightly louder then the original but the vibrating will alert you to when he is read to talk.

Where can you buy Pal Mickey? How much does he cost?

I have a ways to go but I'd love to get DD one. Are they very big? I might have to get a backpack for DD to carry him in if she gets tired of holding it.

I guess my response would be "what you don't know about, you won't miss". I have the original Pal Mickey. I have never had it updated other than to have it on when I enter the gate of the park. He tells new jokes on a regular basis. He updates about shows taking place. He told me about Cindercelabration show times in MK. In Epcot, he talked about Turtle Talk.

I guess there may be some things that I'm not getting by not having the newer version, but I'm clueless to what those things are. Therefore, they don't bother me. I seem to get plenty of information from my old Pal Mickey and find him to be more than entertaining. If a person must have every new piece of information, they are welcome to purchase a new version of Pal Mickey. For me, I am very content with my old version.

We had the old one for three years, on our last trip he malfunctioned for good, he kept shaking and shaking! (it was quite sad) We were able to trade him in on the new model for $40.00. The new one had all of the new attractions on it, while the older model did not update for the new things. The guy said that the new model has a different chip and will now recognize the new attractions, while the older model did not. It has been worth the $ since we use him everytime we go.

I also purchased one of the outlet Mickey's (although at the $30 price) for our trip last year. He seemed to update when we entered the park but then for some reason started acting weird. We thought it was the batteries dying but of course the lady in the store at Epcot couldn't help us because she said we needed a screwdriver to remove the back of the battery pack. She sent us to the picture pick up place (can't remember the name) and they removed the batteries with "gasp" a coin. So much for needing the screwdriver! It turned out not to be the batteries after all so she plugged him into some gizmo and he sat there for a few minutes while his info was reloaded or updated or whatever you want to call it. We didn't have another problem with him in any of the parks after that.
The one issue with the older ones is that the volume isn't as loud but you can make him repeat what he said if you miss something. I think they also made a better clip for him but we purchased a lightweight (this is important when lugging him around all day) caribiner clip.

There are plenty of people that feel the original pals have plenty of information and feel no need to buy the new and for those people that is great. I just wish that all people could have the proper information on the difference's before deciding which one to buy and this board is not always giving the proper information. The fact remains there are some things that the new pal does that the original version absolutly cannot be updated to do and if those things are important then you should be aware of that before buying the old one because you belived lies that you read here and thought he could be upgraded to be the same as the current pal.

Perhaps using a word other than "lies" might make people respond a little better to what you have to say. It could very well be that people have wrong information or incomplete information, but the word "lies" makes it sound like posters are out to purposely mislead others. I don't think that is the case at all. "Lies" in regard to what people post on this board doesn't sound very Disney-like.

However I stand by my original point if someone says they had something done to their pal mickey that disney and a very knowledgable cm have said cannot be done then yes that is indeed a lie. How people respond is not really a big issue with me I just like people to know the truth and where they can find it and much of the information given on these boards about pal mickey is very misleading. Some of it is lies.

New Pal Mickey's are just under $70....he comes with a lanyard. He's about the size of a teddy bear but heavier. My girls already love him and we haven't taken him into the parks yet!!

The only thing I have seen on the new ones that couldn't be downloaded unto the older ones are the games and jokes he plays at home. Plus you cannot, obviously, make him talk louder.

The tone of your posts is putting everyone else on the defensive and you are really not stating anything new....you just keep repeating that we are lying. My information is coming straight from the Pal Mickey instruction booklet so if I'm lying so is Disney.
