How do you update Pal Mickey?

The only thing I have seen on the new ones that couldn't be downloaded unto the older ones are the games and jokes he plays at home. Plus you cannot, obviously, make him talk louder.

The tone of your posts is putting everyone else on the defensive and you are really not stating anything new....you just keep repeating that we are lying. My information is coming straight from the Pal Mickey instruction booklet so if I'm lying so is Disney.

Perhaps you can tell me what page of the instruction booklet says what the original pals can and cannot be updated to do? I have my booklet for the hcoe version of pal mickey and i'm not finding that information anywhere. I never said you were lying in fact i didnt at any point state which poster was lying. If it wasnt you then you have nothing to be defensive about.

There are plenty of things on this board that are undisney like. However I stand by my original point if someone says they had something done to their pal mickey that disney and a very knowledgable cm have said cannot be done then yes that is indeed a lie. How people respond is not really a big issue with me I just like people to know the truth and where they can find it and much of the information given on these boards about pal mickey is very misleading. Some of it is lies.

Since there are obviously conflicting experiences here, what are you saying is so brand new and different that cannot be updated on an old one and would render these helpfolks "liars" in your opinion? I'm thinking of buying a Pal Mickey and would like to know the differences.

New Pal Mickey's are just under $70....he comes with a lanyard. He's about the size of a teddy bear but heavier. My girls already love him and we haven't taken him into the parks yet!!
Thank you. Where can he be purchased?

Also, the new one does talk and interact at home?

Due to the misinformation on this thread and others, I just called the Main Street Cinema at the Magic Kingdom to verify. Cast Member John has CONFIRMED that the older Pal Mickey (any version prior to the HCOE version) can only be updated with the park's daily information (parade and show times, etc. - as stated in the instruction booklet) and can NOT be updated in any other way. The older Pal Mickeys can NOT be made to provide information on any of the newer attractions (Soarin', LMA, Everest, etc.), or to have the latest features (singing, louder voice, interacting with the Glow medallion).

These are the facts. I have both Pals. I don't want to see people buying the original on E-Bay and being disappointed that he won't do what they thought. The original Pal can still be fun (both of mine "do the parks" together often), but he has more limited capabilities.

If you have an older Pal and would like to "trade up" to a new one, you can do that at the Main Street Cinema for $40 with your trade in.

Thanks so much for this information, that is truly helpful!

That is exactly what we were told when we traded in our old Pal.

Mine is talking at home, having never been to the parks not sure on the interaction part how it differs. I am not sure where my friend picked him up but I believe there are a few stores in WDW where he could be picked up. Call Merchandising I am sure they could help.

is pal mickey just for little kids, or do adults enjoy him too? i'm 20 and i would like to buy one for my WDW trip this aug. the only thing is i'm not sure if he is would just be for the little ones or enjoyable for all? what all does he inform you about? thanks!

I would suggest just looking at WDW website....he is supposed to tell you about ride times...tell jokes/interact while waiting. He has parade times (after he updates on your way into the park). I think he will be a lot of fun even for the grown em ups!!

Thanks for the advice on the batteries, although I wish I would have gotten mine for $10, LOL. The ones I got were 50% off, which was just under $30, I think. Still a good deal!

My DD's middle name is Mackenzie.

Sorry to change the topic...and now, back to pal mickey...

As for updating older Pal Mickey, I didn't see this thread until after I returned from a trip with my older Mickey. I didn't do anything special to update him, just kept him pointing out as I entered the park. And he had something to say about Mission Space. So I think the older ones do work fine...:confused3

I can not thank you enough for this info, our pal mickey was acting nuts at Epcot , we thought he was broken he just keep going on about one ride, and nothing else:lmao:
It was driving us nuts , I will be bringing him to trade up in August :thumbsup2

I was actually planning to leave him home this trip since he was pretty much worthless on the last one..

We :cloud9: pal mickey but it is no fun when he is not working and you are lugging him around :goodvibes

That is exactly what we were told when we traded in our old Pal.

Are they still doing this? I have a first generation Pal Mickey, that I have enjoyed, but I would like a newer version. If they are still offering this, I would like to take advantage of the deal. TIA Maggie

I just got a Sorcer Edition Pal Mickey from E-bay. I paid just under $50, including shipping, for him. This is the newest one, isn't it?

Does anyone know if the Disney Outlets still have Pal Mickey and if so which one?

Character Warehouse (some stores) do have some of the HCOE Pal Mickeys. They are $43 shipped. I'll see if I can track down the number for the store I ordered mine from.

Saying things have been done to you pal mickey that disney itself says cannot be done is a blatent lie. I havent called anyone out on any of the post about pal mickey on this message board only given people the true information and pointed them in the right direction for more information. When a disney cm that is very knowledgeable about pal mickey and the disney website itself says something cant be updated on pal mickey then yes the people on here are lying. Some things can be updated other stuff cannot.
As far as volume the newer version is slightly louder then the original but the vibrating will alert you to when he is read to talk.
Renee

Wow- Does somebody have Pal Mickey issues?

As far as updating- I will try it next year when we go. I won a Pal Mickey and a bunch of other Disney stuff in a contest but have never used him. By the time we go he will be about 3 years old so hoping he will update since I'm too cheap to buy one.

A 3-year old Pal Mickey will NOT update for the new attractions that did not exist when he was developed, but he will still tell you about the attractions that were there when you bought him and should be able to tell you parade times.

As for the "trade-up," that was quite some time ago and I am fairly certain that is no longer offered. It would make sense if it was only for right after the new Pal was released.
