Hi!
Not thinking of doing this for 2009 but possibly for 2010, and thinking ahead. I have never used my DVC membership for anywhere except DVC and a Disney Cruise. How do you go about trading to say Mexico or Hawaii? How many points does it take to trade for a week at another place? How far in advance do you need to do it? Sorry for so many questions! I know someone will have ALL my answers!:worship:

Except for 4 DCL cruises, this was aslo our first time. Last Sept. I put my request in. I only gave one week (July 09) and one resort - The Royal Sands (only because my brother is trying to get the same for a 1 BDR). I put in for a 2BDR and my exchange came through in April 08. My brother is still waiting. Mine is considered high season and it cost me 270 points (I think).

I can only give you my experience and it my first time. They charged me $95 when I made the request and my points came out of my account when the match was made.

Put the request far in advance (2 years) and you need to be very flexible.

flexibility is the key, or at least it used to be. we typically plan trips far in advance. several years ago we wanted to go to scotland. when we found out that the average (at that time) advance notification by member services was 5 months out, we could not make it work. we postponed the trip to the following year, got our dates, and had a terrific week at the Cameron House on Loch Lomond. (I think the exchange at that time was 120 points. unbelievable!) we had a one bedroom cottage, all to ourselves. the kids had murphy beds. There was a little pond right in front of the cottage, and a mother duck and her ducklings came up on the porch every morning for toast crumbs. The main resort building also had absolutely the most magnificent indoor pool we have ever seen. I believe this is still an available exchange, and I would totally recommend it to anyone. So yes, they do work out.

The process for II exchanges is to look at the list of possibilities and give MS a list of resorts and dates. Plan AT LEAST 12 months out and expect to wait a few months to see if you will match or not. Given them as many resorts and weeks as possible. count on 270 points for a 2 BR and 160 for a 1 BR but it could be a little less.
