I am the "right" weight for my height, 5'8"-142lbs. So my BMI is 21.6.

I lost almost 50lbs over 6 years ago, so I can't say that I'm not happy. But that's not the same as saying that I'm happy with how the weight is distributed ;)

I agree with whoever the PP was that mentioned lean muscle mass vs. body fat. I may weigh only 12-15lbs. more than I did in high school, but I know that I have quite a bit more body fat and less lean muscle now than I did then. And there is no way I could wear the same size pants I did in high school!

I realize that some of that is due to pregnancy and childbirth, but a fair amount is due to my not working out and toning up those areas.

I'm in the proper range for my size, but on the high end. I had a baby 5 months ago and still need to lose 18 lbs. to be back to normal. I'm just not happy right now, the weight came off so easy with the other two. But considering I put on over 40 lbs, I guess I shouldn't be complaining.

I think you contradicted yourself with your own post. Your BMI is 32. BMI of 30 or above is obese. 25-30 is overweight. 25 or under is ideal. So 185 lb or less would be your ideal weight.

That's why I suggested that a better poll would be asking where people are by BMI. Though so far, about 61% have said they are overweight or obese, which tracks pretty closely with national stats.
I couldn't weigh 185 if I wanted to. My shoulders have their own zip code, I played hockey in highschool and college and I was lean and mean at 210 in college.
That BMI is such a load.

Just calculated my BMI and it is 17.5
After having 3 kids I currently weigh what I did in high school and love it!!

I am just right, and actually just a couple of pounds from being underweight, according to the charts. To me, however, I need to lose a couple of pounds. I am a distance runner, so thin is normal for me, but I weigh about 10 pounds more than I used to before I had a child and was more dedicated to my running, and that is where I am more comfortable at.

I do weigh less than I did in high school though. :teeth:

I'm a little overweight, but I'm on South Beach and doing well- feeling great too. Not sure how much I've lost or how much I weigh because my scale broke a few weeks ago.

I don't really take BMI that seriously. Everyone is different- different muscle mass, bone mass, etc. My DBF would have been considered "obese" when I met him... most of my friends didn't even think he was overweight  I've seen pictures of my mom when she was my age and she looked about my weight. I asked her how much she weighed at that time- it was 20 POUNDS less than what I weigh!!

I'd like to drop 15 pounds right now. I go to the gym 6 days a week - 4 days being completely cardio and 2 a mix of lifting and cardio. I've been feeling great since I started this and can already tell I'm a lot healthier :thumbsup2

102 lbs. the last time I was at the doctors a few weeks ago.. When I was a teenager and young adult, I never weighed more than 95 lbs. - till I had kids..

BMI is not the whole story, but it's a real good place to start. If you follow the link I gave on page 2, you'll get to the NHLBI site. Not only does it discuss BMI, it also dicusses waist circumference and other risk factors for disease.

For example, "Patients who are overweight, do not have a high waist measurement, and have less than 2 risk factors may need to prevent further weight gain rather than lose weight." So someone with an elevated BMI might be ok if the other factors are in line.

I am 5'10" and I weight 125 pounds. I'm underweight but I can't gain weight I try my metabolism is too high.

I can imagine Dissers thinking I weigh about a ton because all I ever do is talk about junk food and eating half a dozen chocolate cupcakes at a time. :teeth:

I never weighed more than 99 pounds until I got married. After 27 years of marriage and three kids, I've gained about thirty pounds. Considering I'm only five feet tall, I probably could stand to lose five or ten pounds.

I just can't do it!! All the bad food tastes so good!! :goodvibes

This was me to a T (the same size and weight.) I weighed 93 pounds when I got married in 1993. After staring brithcontrol pills I gained 30 pounds also. (but 13 year of marriage, 2 kids and gained the weight with in 3 years of getting married.)

No mater what I seemed to do those 30 pounds would not drop off. I had 2 kids and didn't gain much either pregnancy, that weight came off fine.

Now I had to go on a strick diet to continue to nurse my youngest child who developed an allergy to milk and eggs. By cutting out ALL milk and eggs (even trace amounts.) You would not belive how much food this cuts out. I found replacements, and most are much more better for me, but not as much fun. I lost 20 pounds in the 4 months. (It has been 6 months now and I am starting to eat some trace amounts again.) It has leved off so at sitting at the current weight. I voted for the right weight for my size, but I think I could stand to lose another 5 to 10 pounds and I would be very happy. I will take what I can get.

ETA, I just did my BMI and it was 22.8 Not the best, but still in the normal weight range. :woohoo:

I'm glad you asked this now and not 8 weeks ago since I lost 15 lbs. I still need 10 to go. I joined a gym and it has made all the difference.

Mine is 21.4 -but I am a bit "jiggly" and have a little poochy tummy
I have been going to spin class like crazy and I am hoping to drop a few pounds

In the late 60s my doctors (more than one) and even Weight Watchers had me believing that I was fat because I didn't weight 116 (BMI 18.7 on the borderline of being underweight).

I am 5'6" and weighed 128 lbs in my twenties. That's a BMI of 20.7 - smack in the middle of normal. I am not small boned and was very athletic - lots of muscle.

No wonder there has been such a growth in eating disorders. My generation (I'm 60 - almost) spent our youth being told that we were fat if we were not emaciated like Twiggy. I'm serious, I truly thought I was obese at 128 and if the scale went up to 132 I wanted to hide in a closet.

Well I'm just a tad over weight. I'm 5'6 and 160lbs, BMI 25.8.. But I'm still trying to loose the last 10 pounds of baby weight and hopefully another 5 or 10 pounds after that. Dd#2 is now just old enough to go to the daycare at the gym so I need to get moving (literally and figuratively.)

I'm a few pounds underweight but I don't really look it :(. I have a hourglass figure so I can end up looking heavy if I'm wearing something loose.

Few pounds underweight according to any doctor's chart.

I think I'm "just right".

I am 23 pounds overweight. However, three years ago this month I was 73 pounds overweight.....so I am not complaining. I will never make it to what the charts say is ideal for me, and that is because it is not realistic for me. I would be happy to lose another 10-15 pounds, but realistically I will settle for 10 pounds.
