How do you sit on an airplane with 4?

Plan to pay extra for reserved seating or you may find yourselves disappointed when you get to the airport. E.g., two people here, two people far away, no one by a window.

I have actually been debating this same thing. I think I have decided to do 3 and 1. I think if I split them up 2 and 2 then they will keep wanting to switch "I wanna sit with daddy.....now I wanna sit with mommy". I don't think that would go well with the stranger sitting at the end of us. I'm very glad that our flight is only and hour and a half!

We do 2 and 2. Like you, we were worried about the kids squabbling being so close to each other and invariably we hear the "I want to sit by Mommy!" or "I want to sit by Daddy!" So we do 2 and 2 and one kid with me on the way there and then we switch on the way back. Both DH and I like to sit by the window and so do the kids so this configuration gets us closest to the window.

Hello - Sorry not Disney related but we are flying to Disney in November. Its 4 of us. 2 kids and 2 adults. The plane seats 3 - row - 3. How do you do your seating? I was thinking of 2 behind one another so each kid can get a window with a parent. I would love the kids and I in one section and my husband across the isle but after thinking about it I think the kids will fight for the window. 6 and 3 years old. First time for the 3 year old to fly.

we usually sit 3 and 1. Me and the kids sit together while hubby sits accross the row on the isle seat so we can still talk if we want to without disturbing too many people. our kids have been much younger like yours the first time we flew and we sat 2 and 2 to be able to have one of us help each child.

our kids are 9 and 12 for this trip though so don't need as much attention this time around.

We do two and two right behind each other. This way each child gets a window and my DD (a seat kicker) can sit behind my son.

I've seen lots of families do 2 and 2 and I've seen lots do 3 and 1. I think it depends on the age of your kids and the dynamic in your family. I don't necessarily think one is always better than the other.

If the plane configuration is 3/3 or 3/2, I'd put the 3 kids together and the adult on the aisle across. If it's 2/2, I'd have the two kids that get along best sit together and the adult with the other kid, with all of you on the same row.

In this i'd seat the 10 and 8 across from parent and 16 y o. I'd pick the middle and isle seats on either side to avoid having to cross over strangers, also if you're flying at a low season time you might get lucky and not have anyone sitting in the other 2 seats

We always do the 2 in one row and 2 directly behind.
Both kids get a window seat and some time alone time with either Mom and Dad
Also found it was easier to communicate and pass things back and forth with DH. I sit directly behind DH.

Well, in the past we flew AirTran and chose our seats and we did 2 and 2...however, now that Southwest has taken AirTran, we can't select our seats ahead so....we are praying for early seating so that we can sit 2 and 2...and there are us 3 friends flying in August and I pray once again we can sit together...first trip with the 3 of us and we have lots to chat about...we did pay extra for the early boarding but, again, we may not be able to do that...Good luck and happy flying...

We did across the aisle last time we flew. Next time it will be 2 rows, one in front and one behind. I spent the last flight making sure my little boys didn't accidentally touch the seat in front of us. Next time they will be bothering my husband and older daughter instead of strangers.

For last month's trip, on the way there we did both kids at windows with mom/dad right beside in middle seat, 1 row behind the other. For the trip home, the kids decided they wanted to sit together and they agreed about seating arrangements, so we had DS2 at window, mom in middle, DD6 in aisle, and dad right across the aisle in the same row. Both worked equally well for us.

When we first started flying we did the 2 - 2 arrangement with 2 window seats and a "stranger" in the aisle seat. I guess we figured it would be "easier" if each parent just had one child. But we quickly discovered how nice it is had to have an entire row to yourself, so we now do the 3 - 1 arrangement if the seats are 3 - 3 on the plane. It works well for us ... one takes the window on the way down and the other gets it on the way back. Sometimes the adult sits in the middle between the kids & sometimes the kids want to sit next to each other. There have been times when the second adult has been a row or two away from the 3 seats, but that's fine. As an adult, I find it much more comfortable to sit in the middle of my two kids than between my kid and another adult - more elbow room.

This year we flew on Allegiant and the plane had a 2 - 3 arrangement, so we did 2 -2 and sat behind each other.

I definitely prefer having the whole row to ourselves ... it's more relaxing.

When we went last year my ds was about 2 and we figured he would kick the seat so I put dh an other ds in front of us so if he kicked the seat it would be family, but he didn't kick at all. Next year we will have 3 of us in one row and either my dh or I in the aisle seat across.
