How do you secure your TV/VCR in car?

We are driving to WDW from Pgh. I think the TV/VCR will really help with keeping the kids occupied but I want to make sure it is safe. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

We do this all the time and YES! it does keep the kids pretty well occupied. What we do in our mini van is fill up a smaller laundry basket with extra small pillows, blankets, soft stuff and fill it to where the TV will sit down in it and still doesn't obstruct the screen. This way when it tips (and it usually does) it doesn't fall off onto the floor, the sides of the basket hold it in. Make sense?
I usually have to do the "I'm double jointed in the shoulder and elbow move" when we have to make sharper turns.
Hope that helps!

There are small TV/VCR combos you can buy at such places like Walmart, Target and Buy.com. Before the prices for these units became reasonable, we always rented one that was in a small soft sided suitcase that hung between the front seats from a company called Survive the Drive. They ship it to your house the day before you leave and you send it back when you get home. I think they are renting for $99/week (their week is considered 10 days).

Tinky, that's a great way to keep the TV safe :) but how to you keep the kids safe? I'm always worried that something will happen to send the tv flying backwards into my child's face!

I am looking into those strappy ones so DS can watch "choo" (thomas tank engine) but I'm nervous!

We use one of those adjustable cargo straps from Home Depot or Walmart that people usually use to tie down loads in the back of pick-ups. We sit the small TV/VCR straddling the arm rests between the drivers seat and the passenger seat and use the cargo strap around the arm rests to secure it.

I don't guess this would not work if you had a bench seat or didn't have arm rests.

I purchased a storage case from JC Whitney that is made for a tv/vcr that has 9" screen. It comes with storage compartments and 2 sets of straps to secure your combo between two front seats. I used it last month in my minivan and it worked great. It was $50 plus shipping. Well worth the money I think.

We also have the storage bag for the 9 inch tv/vcr that mazzarafe mentioned. It is made by Steel Horse and can be bought at several places on line. Target also carries it, but when we were looking for one it was always out of stock. It holds the tv very securely, attached to the seats, and it also unhooks easily and becomes a carrying case.

The tv/vcr in the car is a great way to keep the kids entertained but I wouldn't use it unless it was absolutely secure. Unfortunately, you have to think about where it would fly in the case of an accident. Bungee cords and things like that are not going to do the trick. I agree that the Steel Horse bag is definitely worth the money.

Good luck and have a great trip!!

I needed a tote to secure a tv/vcr as well, and everywhere I looked it was out of stock. I just got one two days ago from e-bay...there were several left. The Steel Horse brand was $65-75, and there were some other brands as well. (I got the Steel Horse brand) Check it out - I think you'll find what you need.

I lucked out and bought a carrier for the tv/vcr at Target on clearance for $28. We have not used it yet, but will in Sept.
