I have heard of people taking a day to Resort Hop. How do you do this? Why do you do this? What is there to see or do at other hotels? I would like as much info as possible. This is something we have never done and am interested in knowing more about.

I have done it a lot, but have done it some. I just catch the bus or monorail so I can go and look around the resort at their shops, layout, etc. This gives me an idea if I may want to stay there sometime. Also, if you go at Christmas time, it is neat to see all the different decorations from what I have been told.

Usually I resort hop for a specific reason... .

When we are booked for a meal or show at another resort.. I go a bit early to look around... see the pool, the lobby, the shops etc... get the feel for what it would be like to stay there.

I always do the monorail loop..just for the heck of it (Poly, GF, CR) We like to buy pins at the CR and maybe have a drink in the lobby. I stopped for a great coffee at the poly once on a cool evening and walked out to see the new Volcano Pool.

To go from resort to resort can be tricky, usually we take the bus to the closest park then switch to the resort bus to where we want to go.

I enjoy checking out the other hotels and taking photos... its a fun way to plan future trips

>>^..^<<

During our 1997 trip, we designated a day to take a break from the parks and visited some of the newer resorts or resorts we had never seen. We were staying at CR so we took the boat over to WL. We explored the lobby and grounds; even sat in the big rocking chairs in front of the fireplace while DH did the videoing. We, then took the bus to the TTC where we changed to a bus taking us to the Boardwalk to explore that area; from there we visited the S/D.

2 years later we stayed at the BWI and just this past August we stayed at the Dolphin.

I like to resort hop because I enjoy the atmosphere and architecture of the resorts. If you are not really into hotels or gardens or architecture some of the resorts may not be that interesting to you. I always head over to other places for meals.
I almost always use a car to resort hop but like others have said you can use the fun Disney transport. On our very first trip we checked in at the CBR and our room wasn't ready so we drove over to the Wilderness Lodge for breakfast. After that we took the boat over to the Magic Kingdom dock and transfered to the resort monorail and toured the MK resorts and then as noon approached we took the boat from the GF back to the MK dock via the Polynesian and took the book back to the WL and drove over to Dixie Landings. Some people love to do this and some have been not as inclined to go with us.

First, if you have a car it makes resort hopping better. Having said that. We always take a day to resort hop. It's very relaxing to walk around the other resorts, just to get the feel and beauty of each one. But mostly, we do it to check out where we will stay on our next trip. We always go to the Poly and POR to rent the pontoon boats. My daughter absolutely loves doing that. When we're done resort hopping back to our resort for a swim. And then a night out, maybe Ol' Town. Everyone has an opinion on the pros and cons of different resorts. This way you might be able to make a more informative choice when picking your next resort.

("Gather 'round, little ones. I was there, back in '03, for the Great Pool Hopping Wars. It wasn't pretty -- alot of souls were lost. Here, let me show you my scars...")

:D :D

My only advice is to go to one of the All-star resorts first and buy a refillable mug. Then make sure you carry that with you to all other resorts. Also, make sure you have it out so people can see, especially around the pools. :p

Ok, kidding aside..

My only real advice is to use the resort buses and take things slow. It really is enjoyable especially if you are curious about the particular resort you are visiting.

My two cents. :)

We resort hopped this past vacation for the first time. We planned some meals at other resorts and then just walked around and checked them out. It was great and we got a feel for what resort we might like to stay at the next time. Our 2 fav's ended up being the poly and AKl. These are 2 resorts I had no plans of staying at by the descriptions and once we saw them and got a feel for the atmosphere we fell in love with them.
I highly reccommend trying this.
Besides there are some great restaraunts outside the parks.

As you have heard, hopping is fun for a variety of reasons. The resorts are usually where you can find the better restaurants.
If you don't have a car the best areas for ease as well a best resorts are the monorail loop and Epcot resorts. From the monorail you can visit GF, Poly and the CR without having to wait for the bus. Once you are at the CR you can take a very short boat ride to the WL. You just visited 4 of the best resorts on property. The Epcot area offers the Yacht and Beach club, Swan and Dolphin as well as the Boardwalk. More great hotels and restaurants close together that can be accessed by either boat or footpath. All of this is right outside the gates of Epcots International gateway.

Have Fun

Sorry! Couldn't resist!

Ah yes, it doesn't get much better than spending the afternoon with my DW and 11 children at Stormalong Bay, filling & re-filling our All Star Sports mugs at Beaches & Cream and then heading back to our hotel, the Hampton Inn. That's Disney!

IF I BUY A MUG AT MY RESORT, POR, CAN I THEN USE IT AT ANY OTHER RESORT? WHAT ABOUT THE RESTAURANTS AT THE RESORTS OR BOARDWALK OR DOWNTOWN DISNEY? ARE THE MUGS INDIVIDUAL TO EACH RESORT?

ALSO, CAN WE USE POOLS AT OTHER RESORTS?:p :Pinkbounc :bounce:

AH - HA! I saw your family!!! 3 of your kids were in strollers, which were nipping at the heels of the people in front of you, 6 were on leashes, and your wife was nursing the other 2 in public! You passed the whole lot of them for under 10 years old so you could get the discounted ticket price.

One more thing - if you don't stop smoking on your balcony, I'm turning you in!!!!!!!:)
