How do you re-allocate reservation points?

Not sure how to ask this, so I'll ask by example.

Let's day I book a reservation as the 11 month window for my home resort BWV that uses 70 points and will be for an Oct stay.

In June of this year, someone is selling 35 points that will expire in Nov. I buy these and have them transferred to my account.

After the tranfer is completed, what I want to do is use these new transferred points combined with some of my points for my 70 point October stay.

Can I call member services and have them use these? or would I essentially have to "rebook" the reservation, subject to room availability at that time.

And does it make any difference, either in the above example or a lightly different scenario, whether the points are BWV points or some other resort.

My guess is that you are in still plenty of time to cancel your first reservation without any penalty and then re-bool it on the same call. Always ask first but you shouldn't have a problem using those newly aquired points. If you learn something new--plz post it as we would all benefit...

Best,

I can't tell if you are buying a contract, or just buying some points for the year.

If buying a contract, it makes a difference if the points are for a different resort and you booked prior to the 7 month window at the first resort. You would have to release points booked at the 11 month window and rebook with the other points. In order to do that, there would need to be availablity, or you would need to waitlist.

If it is the same resort - they can reallocate to use the new points. I have done this with banked points (e.g. I booked a ressie in my next use year, then ended up banking some points into it, so had them switch).

I haven't any experience with points bought and transferred from another member, but I'm thinking it would be a similar situation, just because they transfer into your account with the original use year and resort. I do believe they can't be banked or borrowed.

Hope this helps.

I mean just buying some points, not a contract. Sometimes people discount points for sale that will expire soon. Since we never seem to have enough, I wondered what would happen if I bought some of these soon to expire points and tried to use them on an already secured reservation.

I think part of the confusion is the use of the words "buying" and "selling". I think you mean "renting", which is a one time transaction.

You're right, I did mean renting - but renting by tranferring to my account. Not having the other member secure the reservation

Are the transferred points for BWV? If so, there shouldn't be a problem. MS can use those points and free up some of your current year points.

However, if there is a waitlist for the same dates and room type and the points are not BWV points, you cannot do this. That's because you can't use non-home resort points to reserve before the 7 month window opens. If MS were to allow the "reallocation", it would not be fair to anyone who was on the waitlist - they asked to reserve thoe dates/rooms before you did with you non-home resort points. In essence, if allowed, this would be a way around the boking window rules.

You cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. However, you can bank (or borrow) points that have been transferred to you.

Best wishes -
