How do you leave a tip for mousekeeping?

I have never tipped the people who clean up my mess before. How do you go about getting mouskeeping the money without them thinking they are stealing off the night stand? Also what is the standard tip rate?

Thanks in advance.

Some people put the tips in "Mouse Keeping" envelopes they made....I have put my tip on the night stand..My sister will put the tip on her pillow...The two of us go to Disney World frequently...We give between four and five dollars a day.....Especially if we think the house keeper is doing a great job.
We try to put the tip out in a obvious place so they know it is for them.

I always print out the mousekeeping envelopes (you can find some really cute ones on www.mouseforless.com) or you can do a search on these boards for "mousekeeping envelopes" and you should find a link. I don't know how to post one but I have mine saved in my harddrive and I just keep reprinting them. Most people here suggested a rate of $1 or $2 per person per day as a tip. They change the mousekeepers so often that most of us leave the envelopes on a daily basis. I leave my envelope on the pillow on the bed, I was instructed to do this one time when I found they had NOT taken the envelope, I called the front desk to inquire and was told that they this was the safest place for them to see the envelope. Someone else reading this might be able to give you the link to the envelopes. Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

Our last trip at WDW WL I left "Mousekeeping Envelopes"

I brought $2.00 bills from home and left $2.00 a day (there were two of us and we did not make a mess). I left a note that I was a 40-something who loved towel animals.

I got the best towel animals! I even brought one home (gorilla) because I could not believe someone created it from washclothes.

I then started leaving $4.00 a day.

I took a regular envelop and put Disney clipart on the outside and marked "Mousekeeping" and left on the bathroom counter each day.

I forgot my mousekeeping envelopes at home this trip, so I left $5 tucked into the corner of the bathroom mirror every morning. It was taken every day, so I guess it was okay to leave it there. :flower:

Would it be okay to put a little note in our mousekeeping envelope indicating that our kiddos love towel animals - I'd love for housekeeping to leave them some towel animals during our stay, but I've read a few posts that some people who recently stayed at AKL didn't get any.

Would this be too forward? :confused3

We leave on Friday so I am finishing up last minute details.

I like to hide it under the bed or on the floor behind the toilet! This way, I know they are cleaning thoroughly. If they don't find it, it means they don't deserve it b/c they werent doing their job very well!! At the end of the week, you'll have all kinds of extra money to spend!! pirate:

We also left the tip tucked into the edge of the mirror. ::MickeyMo

I print my envelopes. Small 4x5 envelopes with Disney Characters on them. I also print "Thank You Mousekeeping" on them. Then I put the money in it that I plan to tip...seal it...punch a hole in it on the corner.

Then I get some tulle, cut it into a 9 inch circle, place some individually wrapped candy in it, tie it up with ribbon and attach it through the hole in the envelope.

Mousekeeping seems to love it.

$$$$ - we usually tip $1 per day per person unless we have special requests or have been super messy (which never happens). We put all of our towels in a stack, place all of our toiletries together, and move all of our stuff to the benches so that Mousekeeping will only have to change the towels and make the beds.

I was going to make mousekeeping envelopes, but didn't. I left money in the basket where they put the shampoo, soap, etc.

I just wrote "Thank you Mousekeeping" on a piece of paper and tucked it and the money on the bed with DD's teddy bear. We only got a towel animal (an elephant) one day though, I guess I should've tipped more or put in a special request.

I made envelopes labeled "Mousekeeping" and filled each with $3 before we left home. It was sure easier to pull out an envelope every day than to have to search for money every morning.

Dennis,
Thanks for the chuckle! I love finding posts that make me laugh and yours did.

P.S. I usually leave my tip in decorated envelopes in the little basket in the bathroom too. I decorate them with Disney stickers. It's just fun to do.

My niece loves to color so she and I color Disney things on our envelopes and label them "4 our Mousekeeper" and she usually makes a nice little thank you note to put inside and we leave it propped up somewhere obvious. We always come "home" to towel animals or window displays! We usually leave $1 per day per person, and then I kick in a couple of extra bucks. :teeth:

I leave a little thank you note along with a $5 bill each day.

I always write a note (Thank you Mousekeeping, The Carrolls) on the back of a Mickey paper coaster and leave in on the ledge above the sinks. They always find it. I also received my first towel animal this past tr :goodvibes ip!!!

It's been 3 years since I was last there, and I use to leave a tip under the card that had the mouskeepers name on it. This past May there was no card, so I just left a note thanking mousekeeping with my $2 on the table. She took it, and everytime I saw her when I was leaving the room she would wave and say hello to me. Since it was only me my room was very neat. I even put my toiletries away in my bag every day, and only used one wastebasket. Can't help it...I'm too neat. :rotfl:

I do the same thing at Disney that I do at every hotel we stay in. I try to remember envelopes, usually try to keep a stash in my suitcase at all times, or if I'm out I just fold a piece of paper in half and put the money inside. I write Thank You on the paper or envelope and leave it near the TV. When we are staying at a DVC resort I leave it in the hallway on the shelf. We leave notes if we get extra special things in room telling housekeeping how much we appreciate them.

my cards yesterday. Just used some simple thank you cards and wrote thank you from our family and tucked a $5 bill into it. There are 4 of us, but I do keep my room neat.

I used my change I collected in an old coffee can and turned it in for the $5's yesterday. Got $60 from the spare change!
I may buy some cute stickers to put on the envelopes.

Last August our Mousekeepers would not take tips we left that were not in an envelope. I left $5 on the pill and it wasn't taken. Then tried again the next day and again wasn't taken. Finally, put it in an envelope and the tip was taken. Appears they must have been instructed not to take loose cash from a room.
