How do you know when your stateroom is ready?

I know that "everyone" says that the staterooms are ready around 1:30. Do they make announcements? If so, is it by deck or some other system?

As far as I can recall, there is an announcement. Just a "rooms are available" announcement. When they are available, anyone has access to whatever room/deck they want.

I must be clueless because I have never heard the announcement LOL. :) We just have checked at some point after 1:30 and go by the "ropes are down" clue.

I have never heard an announcement, also just looked or ropes to be down.

Well, the announcement isn't made with any great fanfare. The times I've heard it, it was pretty quiet. Basically, "The staterooms are now available" and that was it.

Off topic I know but is there a way to turn on and off the announcements in your room? On our last cruise there weren't announcements in our room and I just went into the hallway. Our next cruise is Alaska, I don't want to miss anything

The announcements can be heard on your tv. I'm not sure which channel. The ship turns them off in the rooms later on the first day so people can nap.

Well it's odd others don't hear it! I can't hear or understand most other announcements on the ship, but that one I hear AND understand!

Hmm. I've only done 9 Disney cruises, which is nothing compared to some folks, but I'm not sure that I ever recall hearing that announcement either. We always go grab lunch once onboard, explore a tad and then take a peek to see if the ropes are down yet on our hallway. It's always such a super exciting time for everyone, just boarding and anticipating what's ahead that the announcement could have happened, but we were just too happy (and probably chatting happily) to notice! :yay:

I have never heard an announcement about the rooms being available either. But I think I have always been still at lunch at that time, so maybe the announcement is not in the restaurants?

I've been in the stair area waiting (would head over around 5 minutes early and always get there early still) and have never heard the announcement - just seen the stateroom host come and take down the rope.

They make a very audible announcement.

It's funny, I've come to be able to tune out announcements I don't want to hear. There seem to be so many (bingo coming, port shopping presentation, drink of the day, our current latitude and longitude, yadda yadda). We just go to our room after 1:30, and plan our embarkation activities around that time, so if they've announced the rooms are ready I must auto-ignore them since I don't remember them LOL! The luggage is likely to not be there anyway, so no hurry.

You can't turn them off in the room, but after the first day (ship drill announcement I think) until the last morning (the first time you get that loud wakeup announcement is quite memorable), they (mercifully) don't come into your room. We aren't in our room much, but I never remember a single announcement during the cruise that was important we heard it. Seems most are ways to spend more money (bingo, drinks, shops open), or things that are in the Navigator.

Ditto. I've never heard the announcement either. Weird. o_O

Guess I'll pay more attention on the next one. ::yes::

I have never heard the announcement either. But I'm guessing that is because we are usually in the pool area, sitting at one of the tables. It can get really loud there so we probably missed it. We usually just send the kids to check around 1:30 ;)
