How do you keep your hanging baskets looking full?

I love hanging basket and every year I buy them or make them. But they seem to get straggly quickly. I usually buy petunia's and othere trailing flowers. I do pinch the dead stuff off Maybe I am not pinching far enough back.
Any ideas.

great! I will work on pinching! I think part of my problem I would just pull the flowers off and not really pinch....

Hmmm... good info. I don't think I have been pinching off enough of the stem.
