How do you keep people out of your pool?

We just put a pool in at my Mom's. She has a neighbor across the street that is very nosy and is always over. They have 2 boys about 5 and 2. They have their own pool.

How do we keep them out of this one? While it was being put up the oldest one kept asking when he could go in and my response was "You have a pool".

Help

I don't know but if you find a way, please share it with me:rolleyes: The neighbors are making me nuts:rolleyes1

I thought you had to have a fence when you put in a pool? Something to keep a young child from just falling in and drowning.

So my suggestion is lock the fence. If they're climibg over the fence then ask them to stop doing that and call the police for tresspassing if necessary.

WHAT??!!! I can't believe people invite themselves over to a private pool.

Big, tall fence. Not a bad idea anyway with the liability a pool brings.

Or, you could talk to Ms. Nosy and let her know due to the liability issue that you are not comfortable with kids in it.

I'm still thinking fence though.

Is there not a requirement for pools to be fenced in where you live? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought all pools had this requirement. Anyway, I'd be annoyed if this was happening to my parent...highly concerned also because of the potential for accidents.

Aside from my very elderly neighbors, I'm the only one on the block that has a pool. I have never encountered this problem, and yes, some of the kids around here have nerves. I can't believe that someone with their own pool would invite themselves over to someone elses house. I don't get it. :confused3

As to your problem. I would simply say no every time they ask. In almost all places there are town ordinances that require some type of safety measures. Fences and stuff of that nature. They even require fencing around ladders of above ground pools regardless if your yard is already fenced in. So I'm sure your mother will have some saftey measures in place, but as another mentioned, if they cross that saftey measure, I would call the authorities, or at the very least Ms Nosy herself. Unless you want the kids in the pool...say No! Hopefully they will eventually get the point. Good Luck.

I seem to remember this Baby Ruth bar cleared a pool in record time:rotfl:

We were required to have a fence no shorter than 6 ft. completely around the pool area by the city ordinances. A fence with a gate you can lock is the best you can do.

OR put a nice big doberman, German Shepard or rottweiler in there.

Isn't the pool behind a locked gate? I thought that was required. If not, I'd definitely do that for my own protection.

We have a fence on 3 sides but not on the one side of her house. The pool is over 4 feet deep so we don't technically need a fence.

Mine is just over 4ft deep as well but still had to have a fence around it. I would check and make sure what the requirements are for the city. Some have to have fences some don't it varies from place to place.

This thread has made me realize - Im just a mean person.

I would have yelled at them by now....but thats me. :confused3 ;)

Do what they do on Lake Michigan
put up a huge sign

"HEALTH DEPARTMENT WARNING:

Water Contact May Cause Illness! Bacteria Levels Exceed Health Standards!"

1. fence with signs "no trespassing/private property"
2. if the kids jump the fence, call their parents and say "this was the kids one and only warning...next time it's a call to the police for trespassing"
3. if the kids jump the fence again...follow through and call the police

It's a life lesson - teach them respect for anothers personal property and standing up for oneself for your parents.

The depth of the pool as long as it is a permanant structure doesn't usually matter. I have an above ground pool, the requirements here for safety is at least 48" from ground to ledge (harder for them to climb over or supposedly), a fenced in ladder no shorter than 4 feet with a self locking gate. Inground pools are not much different, but you can use your fenced in yard to compensate for the fencing, however here they make you have pool alarms. And they won't pass your pool inspection without it. So I'm sure, your parents will have to do something, since just about everywhere there are town ordinances for pools. If these ordinances where you are don't exist, I would highly recommend fencing because it is a liability.
