How do you get your 2018 Magic Band to work for your 2021 trip?

Do my DD and I have our own bands from a 2018 trip. Are they still assigned to us? I added my hotel reservation and park tickets to MDE so does that mean that info is now on our Magic Bands?
Or do I need to do something special to get them to work for THIS trip? My DD and I are both in our own MDEs and we are linked and that. She also shows up on my hotel reservation.

There is nothing ON a magic band. It's simply a link to your MDE profile so if you tickets are linked and you haven't deactivated the bands on MDE, they will work.

Really? Wow! Will my magical express reservation show up, too? I filled out the online form and got an email saying they were backed up but I would hear from them soon?? When I hear from them will that automatically be linked to MDE and my magic bands?

Everything in you MDE account is accessible through the magic band.
When the band is read the band reader sends message to the Disney computers with the band number and the type of information the reader is seeking. If it were people talking it may sound like, "Magical Express is asking if Magic Band xyz has a reservation" The computers reply yes or no. Same for fastpasses, paying for anything, etc.

I am going to cover one more thing that might impact how you want to handle your MB situation.

It is true that you have a MB and it is associated with your MDE and will work for things like opening up a resort room and for access to the parks via a tapstile.

However-----

The internal battery is now 3-4 years old and may be getting weak and therefore have limited broadcasting range when "pinged" by Disney while you are at WDW.

This means, for example, that you will not be able to access your picture from the Frozen ride. The same applies to 7DMT. Same with Slinky Dog Dash. Same for PotC.

These 4 rides are an example of where a picture is taken but the guest does not have to tap underneath the small monitor to save it on their MDE.

So...........

If you will be buying the Memory Maker, it will be safest to get a new MB so you can have every single picture taken while in the park.

If you really don't need the pictures, then carry on with your 2018 MB and use the savings to buy yourself a Dole Whip!
