How do you get sprikled with Pixie Dust?

We ditched meeting the fairies and ran over to Mickey instead. I got the best picture of my daughters (5 & 3 at the time) running down the street with their cousins with their arms in the air and Mickey at the end of the road waving at them! Once we got to him, he hugged them all, grabbed my 5 year old by the hand and took just us for a little tour of his house, pointing out stuff and just having fun with the girls.

Okay. That sounds adorable.
If you have the pic handy and feel like posting it, I'd love to see it! :)

I always found I get my pixie dust by not expecting it. Not saying that you are op, but really there is no way to "get" pixie dust. It just happens, that is why it is special

My daughter was sprinkled with Pixie Dust by a CM while we were poking around one of the gift shops. I have no idea what we did to get it nor do I know what we could do to get it again. I didn't even know getting pixie dusted existed before it happened to us. What I do know is after almost 6 months she still has glitter on her head! That stuff is tough to get out!

I agree with everyone else. It's not something you can seek out.

I've had some wonderful times at Disney over the years. One of my coolest memories was when were one of the first to exit the monorail at Epcot, our favorite park. We hurried down the ramp, excited to finally be there. At the bottom of the ramp was a gate. As we went through it, DD9 stopped and held the gate open. For every one! She stood there and held the gate open for every single person behind us, and we were last in that monorail group to enter the park.

To me, that was the real magic. Seeing my DD show kindness to all those people instead of thinking of herself and her favorite ride (Soarin') nearby.

Yes -- be kind and friendly and patient and open, and love every minute of your trip.

The thing is that this is the kind of *magic* that you just have to be kind of already making for yourself; these are the lovely experiences that come when you're already open to the Disney magic that's all around you. There's just no forcing it, if you know what I mean.:thumbsup2

YES!! This is exactly the frame of mind we always try to keep at WDW. By being open and friendly, and looking for the magic all around you instead of what seems "off" or "annoying" you truly create your own wonderful experiences.:cloud9:

First rule about pixie dust: NEVER ever ever go in expecting it.

Second rule: Seriously, do not go expecting it.

Third rule: Be nice, be kind, enjoy your day and... DO NOT go expecting it.

The best type of pixie dust are really small things that will make your day more magical, I also try and keep these things to myself, not because I don't want other people to experience them, but because once you post it online, people will go in expecting/demanding things and the pixie dust will get cut off rather fast, so then nobody else will get any, which is very sad.

I totally agree:thumbsup2 We bring pixie dust with us and give it out when the right moments is upon us. We bring individual disney sparkle stickers we give out in line to a crying child or a pretty princess or even a child who is scared to go on Peter Pan, we told him the magical pixie dust stickers would keep him safe because they came from Tinkerbelle...all he had to do was hold them tight when he was afraid...the pixie dust that came to us, was the look in his parents eyes:goodvibes

You can't force it, but if you just enjoy your vacation and have fun, it seems like CMs are more inclined to sprinkle "pixie dust" than if you're looking for it. My son had a wonderful sword fight with 2 CM's, all because he got excited about finding a Peter Pan hat for sale.

Also, keep your eyes peeled and you may find other kinds of pixie dust. I was at AK with my family, my in-laws and a niece and nephew. My nephew was dying to ride Expedition Everest but the lines were crazy and they'd run out of FPs. I saw 4 FP's on the ground in Africa and picked them up. They were for EE, and they were still valid! They were neatly arranged, so someone must've left them for another guest to find. My sister and I once got FP's for Big Thunder from a family that was leaving the park before their window opened. It can happen any time.

Somehow I've ended up with FPs we weren't going to use at both Disneyland and WDW. I always try to give them to another family before we leave. We intended to go back to HS last year but decided against it even though we had FPs for Toy Story Mania. I ended up handing them to a family heading out from the WL instead.

We had our own pixie dust experiences while we were there, but it felt nice to give another family one.

The best Pixie Dust was after the Electric Parade @MK. Crowded, hot, tired, we were poking around a bakery shop, just killing time for the crowds to disperse. A CM called my DGD to the bakery counter, and gave her a giant(10 inch) cookie! The CM said how well behaved and patient my DGD was. She still talks about that. Another time at the very end of Magic Hours, on Splash Mountain, the CM let DH and myself ride 3 times in a row, without getting off! A little thing, but adds to your sense of wonder, holiday, and "lucky us"

OP I'd recommend not expecting anything you didn't pay for. We just returned from our first trip to WDW in May and we didn't get anything extra. I'm thinking the frequency to people's visits (who are on the board) is creating a higher percentage of 'pixie dust' than it truly is. It seemed to be (after being on the board about 3 months before our trip) that everyone received some sort of 'extra' somewhere along the way.

We're perfectly nice, polite people and had two 2-year olds in tow. We didn't receive anything we didn't pay for, upgrades, etc. Obviously we didn't need or really expect anything but from the boards it seems like "something" happens to everyone.

We would love some special stuff to happen to us while we are in Disney any idea how to make that happen?

1) What are you looking for?
2) Do you want treatment of freebies?
3) WDW does not give PD when asked.
4) We give it because we like the guest(s).
5) Here are a few things CM's can do.
6) It is strictly a case of individual CM initiative.
. . . table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . placemats autographed by characters
. . . free appy or free dessert
. . . ride an attraction with a character
. . . room full of balloons and/or flowers
. . . fruit basket or wine basket in hotel room
. . . individual fastpasses or booklets of several fastpasses
. . . food and snack items (candy, popcorn, sundries)
. . . room upgrades

Biggest pixie dust srpinkling I ever got was totally unexpected, totally unlooked for, and totally not trying for it (my generally clueless wife now, she just happened to stumble RIGHT into it though, :thumbsup2 ) We were at the MK rope drop and after trying for Family of the Day every single time we had gone, we had arrived late, went to the wrong turnstile, and I wasn't even paying attention. But my DW did the things others have urged here, she smiled and chatted with a cast member. Said castmember just happened to be THE bringer of magic that day and she selected us to be the Family of the Day. It was so uncharacteristic and so unexpected that I actually would not beleive it until they had us scanned in and inside on our magical adventure :goodvibes

Point being, the best magic comes unexpected and unasked for. But it never hurts to be happy, friendly, and outgoing! ;)

Here is an interesting social experiment. Sit and people watch for a while in an area where people hope for pixie dust (restaurants, hotel check-in, etc). You will see that the people who either ask for pixie dust, or "fish" for it by dropping hints don't get anything. The CM's are wise to the tricks. We did this on our honeymoon in the Poly while we were killing time and it was pretty interesting.

You've got me thinking, now. We're having our DisneyMoon in August, and I'm planning to wear my Bride Ears Headband constantly - I mean, when am I going to get to wear a veil again?! (I *loved* wearing my actual wedding veil and I am super excited to spend 2 weeks in WDW with the sparkly ears with a veil. I don't even care how hot it is!)

Would people think I was looking for special treatment by doing this? I really don't want CMs (and guests) to think I'm being tacky or grasping - I just really, really want to wear my special ears... :rotfl:

You will be in good company- we saw at least a dozen couples in our 5 days at the World last week wearing bride & groom hats. There will also be hundreds of other guests wearing "I'm Celebrating" buttons for various events - birthday, anniversary, engagement, etc. So no, nobody will think you're trying to be singled out.

Have a wonderful Disneymoon- we had ours in Sept. 1984 and we are still going back!

It's mostly random. You can't make it happen. That's what makes it pixie dust.

Usually the advice is that if you want to make sure special things happen or your kids get special things, you need to order them and pay for them - Disney has quite a few options for that.

DD (21 months) wasn't so sure about the characters. Donald's handler warmed her up by asking for a high five then coaching us on how to approach Donald with DD and eventually got her to give him a high five. DD was a little scared, but over the moon. Now when she sees a picture of Donald she says "Donald...five!". I'm so grateful for the kind CM for helping make her first character meet a little easier:thumbsup2

We wore our in 2003 and are going back for our 10th anniversary. I think wearing ears just shows you 'get it' or 'embrace the culture'.

I feel it makes you, the guest, more approachable by cast members who know you will appreciate the interaction. In my experience it is fun to have other guests and CMs shouting out random congrats - THAT is pixie dust magic!! I did not feel silly or get wierd looks till I got off the property...oops. forgot I was wearing em.

For me - it's a chance to be a big kid again and not have anyone question me when I walk around the park carrying a balloon and maybe wearing ears. (Cause I want a balloon darn it! And when I went as a kid my mom said no I could not have one... lol)

Wear the ears if you want to - if it makes you happy do it! No one will think you are doing anything other than having a good time!!

No. If you go thinking that your Minnie Veil is going to get you showered with Freebies, then that is a different story. If you are simply happy to be sporting your Minnie veil, then that is a different story. Have a blast! Wear your Ears! It is Disney!

We are the birthday button crowd. we have been taking turns celebrating birthdays in Disney. WE have had a wonderful time, but the button is about us, not anything else. Out pixie dust comes from within, not from the maybe cupcake.

Hi, if you were at MK the pixie dust in the hair at a gift shop was likely Castle Couture in Fantasy Land near the castle. They do free pixie dust in the hair :-)

DH & I went to Narcoossee's at Grand Floridian during MNSSHP one year. The windows are the best view of the fireworks and I was hoping we would get one. While we were sitting waiting for our beeper to go off a lady walk up to the podium and demanded to be seated at a window seat and to get seated ASAP so they could watch the fireworks. She was told that there were others waiting to be seated before her and they couldn't guarantee a window seat. She was livid. Our beeper went of a few minutes later and we were walked across to the other side of the restaurant away from where the MK view windows were. But at the end of the restaurant the hostess turned right & seated us at the best table right by the window with a great MK view. I never did see where Miss Demanding ended up. I was too happy with our Pixie Dust. The fireworks were fantastic from there. (The only problem that we almost had was when a young man walked on the deck outside and planted his butt up against our window totally blocking my view of the castle. I said oh great and he must have heard me cause he looked back at where he was standing & moved down to the space between the windows. This is why when people ask where to go to watch the MK fireworks and someone says the porch in front of Narcoossee's I point out that they should be considerate of the people who are dining in the restaurant and not stand in front of the windows. )
