So, I came into work at 5am because, well, I haven't slept since Saturday night. A good friend of mine was out with buddies and got trashed Saturday, I had friends over and we were drinking so I was up late anyway. Well, his friends stopped by my house and he was passed out in the car, he lives a few houses down from me and they couldn't find his keys. I've known him for years, we're really close, and the guys he was with are friends of mine too. They ask if he can sleep it off at my house I say no problem, they carry him into my living room and lay him on the couch.
It was about 1am. My company started leaving and I was alone by 2am. My roommate was away this weekend and my girls were at a sleepover. He was passed out on my couch and I went to bed up stairs. Around 5am I woke up really thirsty...which NEVER happens! Once I'm asleep I'm out! So, I go down stairs and I hear a gurgling sound.
I throw on the kitchen light and see that he has not moved an inch. I go over to check on him and turn on the lamp by his head and his face is so gray and he's chocking on his vomit. I slid him onto the floor and cleared out his mouth and called 911. He completely stopped breathing and I had to do CPR. A police officer arrived on the scene 1st, I had been doing CPR for about 10 minutes, he started breathing on his own once then stopped again. He started to swallow his tongue and then he started seizing.
The police officer didn't even have a chance to help with CPR he just got on the radio and started yelling for the ambulance to get there, he ran out to his car and came back in just as the ambulance got there. They intubated him and took over CPR. He is currently on a ventilator completely unresponsive in ICU at a great hospital.
He overdosed on pills. They are not sure if he is going to make it or not. I have been at the hospital on and off. I cannot sleep or eat, I'm so upset. I just can't help thinking that I should have done something to prevent this. I feel so helpless and hopeless. Anyway, I just needed to get that off my chest. Sorry it was so long.
