No, in all seriousness, I don't take addiction lightly, it is a horrible disease and I have seen many friends and family fall victim to it. I am very offended that some people here have the audacity to to accuse me of having a drinking problem, you don't know me. I would never make a statement like that unless I was willing to do what was needed to see that the person got the help that they need. As a matter of fact, my friends' family has asked me to try and get him into a detox program when he gets out of the hospital. They seem to think that he will listen to me more than them, and I am familar with the drug and alcohol center here. I interned there for 1 of my classes and am still friendly with the Director.

Again, thanks to everyone who had something positive to say! And to those that didn't, I feel sorry for you, that you must have something so bad going on in your lives, that you can't help but be nasty and negative. {{HUGS TO YOU}} because you obviously need it more than me.

I am so glad to hear that your friend is hanging in there. It sounds like he will make a good recovery and hopefully it will be a speedy one. He got really lucky...being at your home, you knowing CPR and You saving his life.
It does sound like he has a tough road ahead, between drinking enough to pass out in conjunction with drugs and overdosing, so very sad. I truly hope that he and all his family and friends will be there to support his recovery so he can live a full healthy life. Very Best of luck to him! Keep us updated!

I am so glad that there is a happy update to this story. When I read it a few days ago all I could picture was my brother in law who tragically was one of the unlucky ones who didn't survive an overdose to perscription pain meds that he was trying so desperately to get detoxed from. It was just a year ago that happened so everything is still fresh on my mind and even now I am tearing up thinking about how hard it has been for my sister and my niece in this past year without him - especially since my other neice is going to be a year old on Friday (he passed away almost a month before she was born)

OP - know that you did a wonderful thing for your friend and his family - you were in the right place at the right time and it wasn't his time to go. Don't listen to those that are only here to put you down. Take care of yourself as well following the events that you just went through.

He's awake!!! Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, I was in training at the end of last week and spent the weekend at the hospital.

Anyway, he's awake and they took the breathing tube out. He still has the chest tube in because the lung keeps collapsing, the doctors say he will more than likely have to stay in the hospital another week or 2. He will have to go through some therapy to regain muscle control as well. He is up and talking, it doesn't seem like there's really any damage, although his short term memory is foggy. He doesn't really remember anything that happened in the week before the OD. They say that he may regain all of that, he was still feeling some of the effects of the drugs.

The 1st thing he said to me when he woke up and was told what happened was, man that was really stupid, I'm definitely not messing with that stuff anymore. He seems completely sincere about it, he was crying and really upset at what he had done. He wants help. He even said he's gonna quit smoking because of the lung damage, he said I have to quit because I want to see kids and grandkids someday.

OP, I'm so happy that he's been able to express to you his gratitude for what you did for home. Hopefully he will make a full and complete recovery and get himself the help he obviously needs. Again, you did a phenomenal thing and you should be very proud.

Thanks for posting the update...so glad to hear your friend is recovering! Long road ahead - sounds like he knows that.

If I am ever in a dire situation, I hope someone around me knows CPR as well as you do.
