How do you get from the airport to your hotel?

This thread is making me think I should try Uber or Lyft; I've never used either and I am a female and traveling solo.

I am not a female but I can tell ya I use both a lot and I have had far more sketchy cab drivers then I have had Uber drivers hands down. I know a LOT of female travelers that prefer Uber over Taxi.

Taxi there is zero recourse or accountability, ride share services are all user rated and if they get too low or complaints of a serious nature they get booted.

Taxis are actually highly regulated....by cities, counties, etc. things like special licenses and inspections, etc are typical for taxis and NOT required for ride shares like uber or lyft.....

I've always (with kids), used Disneyland Resort Express. The price is reasonable ($48 return, sometimes there's a $10 off coupon), and the kids are free under 12. It also means we don't have to bring carseats. Apparently it's now operated by a company other than Grayline and the service has gone downhill, so we might reevaluate it.

Part of it too is that now that we've gone several times, it's part of the Disneyland routine to catch the large coach with whatever Disney graphic is on the side. We took Uber last year, and I think my son was a little disappointed about being in a regular car rather than on the bus.

ETA: And they have a $10 off coupon right now it seems: http://visitanaheim.org/deals/coupons

Do you honestly believe that a government "license" somehow prevents you from being a creeper? I have my commercial driver's license and have held a contractor's license and can tell you that just going through that process does not mean squat in terms of actual safety and attitude. Any yahoo can be licensed that goes through the motions and as far as being "regulated"...they are self inspected. No one is looking over the operations mechanically till there is a problem.

While you are correct Ride Share is not regulated like commercial operators, I will take actual user review based ratings over a government rubber stamp any day when making a choice for service...this coming from someone that HAS been rubber stamped!

My wife and I tried Karmel Shuttle when we last visited Anaheim from the UK back in October 2016. We will definitely use them again. We have also in previous visits used the Disneyland Express coach service too and this is OK, but Karmel worked much better for us. Supershuttle are to be avoided, unless you like being collected from LAX alongside locals who may live in "scary" parts of LA that you'd rather not be in as tourists.

This thread is making me rethink my plans for next month. I am flying in/out of SNA and staying on Harbor Blvd. across from Disneyland. I have Super Shuttle booked and have used them without issue in the past, but the reviews online are pretty bad, and Karmel is twice the price for marginally better reviews. This thread is making me think I should try Uber or Lyft; I've never used either and I am a female and traveling solo. It's a short weekend trip, so I don't really want to take the scenic route of Anaheim on the shuttle when I could be in the parks.

You should certainly do whatever you feel comfortable with. I myself use Uber all the time by myself and I am a female in my 30s. I use it around the bay area where I live, especially if I am meeting my friends for drinks (all of us usually Uber by ourselves when we get together). I also Uber to and from the airport, so that I can leave my car at home, and to and from the hotel at all hours of the day/night, and I have never felt unsafe in an Uber, although I have gotten into some odd conversations, but that can happen in taxis too. I feel like the Ubers that I have been in are in much better condition than taxis, and I like that I receive a lot more information about the driver/vehicle when I book an Uber than a taxi. I often send my husband or a friend a screen shot of the driver's information when I get in the Uber, and I always let him know when I leave and arrive. Obviously you should do whatever you feel comfortable with, I just wanted to give you my perspective as a female traveling solo.

I've always been a fan of Super Shuttle but last month it took 3 hours from landing to get to Grand California. It wasn't their fault, traffic was a nightmare at LAX, took awhile to do pickups at each terminal, then there were 3 stops before mine. It was only $15 plus tip but I started to question if it was worth it. My friend landed an hour after me but got there right after me using Lyft for $38.

Thanks. The screenshot is a good idea.

I found a rental car for $52 for the 3 days, but I'm not sure I want to deal with that either, because sometimes there's a long wait at the counter and then I'd be driving in an unfamiliar area.

I think I'm leaning towards using Lyft or Uber.

Also if you have your Uber profiles set up as Family profiles they can receive tracking of your rides in real time. I have linked an Uber newsroom article on this below but you can also Google 'Uber Family Profiles' or the like.

You can also send status updates for a specific trip to someone, even if they are not linked to you as a family profile. I have linked an Uber help article below or you can Google 'Uber sharing eta and trip status' or the like.

I don't use Lyft when I am alone as the app doesn't work well on my phone (I don't know why, but I have given up on trying to get it to work) but they likely have similar features, or you can just send a screenshot like I do, but it is obviously less informative.

When I used ss at lax all in the van were tourists going to Anaheim. But it took forever and there are many other reasons I'll never use ss shared van service again.

Consider if there is a parking cost where you're staying too.

We have always taken a taxi from SNA but our last trip was 2+ years ago when most airports couldn't do ride share pick ups. This time we will probably do Uber or Lyft. If it's a bad experience we'll take a taxi back. We were at BUR to go to Universal Studios Hollywood earlier this year and decided to take a taxi from BUR to support the local taxi drivers. Our driver was such a jerk -when we arrived at our hotel he told us he would only take cash (even thought he had a credit card terminal) and that he had asked us cash or credit when we got in the car - none of the 3 of us recall that ever happening. According to our hotel bellhop, it's getting more common as the taxi drivers are being squeezed terribly w/ all the competition from Uber and Lyft and they don't want to pay the credit card transaction fees- even though in the end it lost him a 25% tip we would have given if it was a good experience. So we took Lyft back to BUR and had a great experience. I'm still not 100% comfortable with how unregulated the ride share companies are, and how hard it is on the taxi industry who have a lot more costs going into running their businesses. If we hadn't had such a negative taxi experience at BUR I would plan to paid the extra $ (even though $ is tight) and take the taxi for our Oct trip from SNA to DL. Sad times.

Has anyone ever used Johnny's California Shuttle Service?? They have 5 stars on Yelp and some really good reviews. Trying to find the best way for us to get from LAX to GCH and this one looks promising.

I just booked with Johnny's for our Dec. trip. Vey helpful on the phone, pleasant to talk too, and answered my questions. He quoted me $200 RT from LAX to BWPPI.

I've posted elsewhere on the boards, but just wanted to add here that we used DRE last weekend and it was great. On time, clean buses, nice and safe drivers. Our experience both directions was much better this time than it has been when Greyhound operated it.

Uber/Lyft are amazing. I never use taxis anymore. It's a far superior experience. They know who's car you get into, what time you get in, the route the driver takes, the destination and what time you get out. You're charged by the trip, so if you encounter traffic the meter doesn't go higher and higher. In fact last weekend I took Uber to a concert. The trip took three times as long as it should have (not the drivers fault) but we were still charged the $12 we agreed to. And Uber credited me $5 for a future trip because our trip was so delayed even though I wasn't upset about it at all. I've used it a lot in a lot of cities and never had a bad experience. The drivers have always been very nice with interesting stories to share. Clean cars. Always a pleasant experience for me!
