How do you feel about school vouchers?

What bothers me about the schools in NOLA is that when the public schools failed they opened up charter schools thinking that would solve the problem but now a lot of those schools are failing so now they are trying the voucher program.

So now some of the parents who already pay tuition to a private school for their kids will no longer be able to afford to send their own kids to private school due their tax burden of supporting 3 different school systems.

Actually, most of the charter schools are NOT failing. The problem lies in the RSD- Recovery School District, which took over after Hurricane Katrina. The public school system in New Orleans, except for a few exception, is a dismal failure.

It's not my decision, I was replying to those that are trying to defend using tax dollars to send their children to a religious school. No one's tax dollars should ever be used to promote religion, any religion.
How about giving people vouchers and letting them use the voucher wherever they please? Could be a pulic or private school. Private could be religious or non-religious. Everyone gets to pick for themselves.

Or does everyone have to do what you want?

Um, if you are talking to me, I never said anyone was stupid, it's MY opinion how I feel, it's still okay voice that here right? :confused3

I was talking to you. As I said, it's ok to believe or not believe, but with statements like:

Um, I can say all religion are lies, of it you like it better, a fictious story.

you are essentially calling those of us that believe "stupid", although you didn't use the word. Couldn't you just say, "I don't believe" ot "I don't agree"? Must you demean others' beliefs by calling them lies and ficticious stories?

These are beliefs that many of us hold dear, and it's supremely rude of you to dismiss us so blatantly.

The opposite of a lie is the truth. Rather than saying the bible is "true" are you willing to just say "I believe" rather than it's the truth?

For the record, I didn't say stupid, that is your word, not mine. And it's MY OPINION that it's all lies. Your opinion may be otherwise, but you don't have any more proof than I remember. :)

As I said earlier, you implied stupidity, irrationality, gullibility, whatever you want to call it. I agree, you didn't use the word "stupid". And of course I believe the bible is the TRUTH. I do believe. I've not equivocated on that point.

My reason for entering this discussion was not to hijack the thread point of school vouchers, but to ask that you not be so rude.

You don't believe. Ok. Everyone here gets it. No one asked, but you made it abundantly clear that you don't believe, and that you obviously have no repsect for the sensibilities and feelings of those that do. This is evidenced, again, in the aformentioned quote:

Um, I can say all religion are lies, of it you like it better, a fictious story.

You didn't even try to say that it was just your opinion. You simply dismissed all religion, and those that believe in them, with an unabashedly rude, simple statement.

I'm just asking, please, try to respect those of us that have faith. I guarantee, I'll never diss you for your faith, or lack thereof. :)

My goodness, no one was rude, it's only rude whent those of us with a different opinion speak up it seems. Yes, I was asked, read closer. I wasn't the one that hijacked this thread, this hasn't really happened as it's connected, but I am not going to stand by and not answer when I asked or questioned. This is a DISCUSSION forum. :)

I have total respect for those that BELIEVE the bible, not that those that try to tell me they KNOW it's true. No, you haven't done that, but others have and that is total nonsense to TELL others they are wrong when they have no proof. NO, you have not done that, but I have to clarify.

It's not a lack of faith, please do not use that term for those of us that do not see things as you do, please. :) Tolerance and freedom is what is needed.:mickeyjum

Have a magical day!

Kathee,
You did not voice an opinion, you stated as a fact that religion is lies. If you can simply prove that god does not exist, then your statement that "the opposite of lies is truth" about the bible will hold up. Otherwise, you cannot state that the bible is false or religion is lies. If you say you believe that what the bible says is fiction, that is a completely acceptable statement of your opinion. What angers some people is when you state that all they believe in is false. You are forcing your own opinion on them and that is rude. Try to be more tolerant of those of us who don't believe the same things as yourself. Not one person here has told you that you were wrong, or tried to force their religion on you. Simply show the same consideration.

D

Thanks for setting me straight in regards to the Charter schools and the RSD schools.:thumbsup2
