Hi LTS!
I believe a good chiropractor is a real health asset. I do think the practice can easily attract quacks, but there are plenty of good ones.
I think they want you to come back just to keep you maintained so you are less likely to reinjure or have other issues. You have to decide how you feel about that.
I tend to have back problems, my lower back has a little too much curve which I guess makes me susceptible. My chiropractor keeps me from having any real problems. We have enjoyed other benefits over the years:
My son had chronic ear fluid. After repeated ear infections they put him on maintenance antibiotics, because fluid in his ear wouldn't drain properly and would re-infect. When they started talking about referrals and tubes, I decided to give the chiropractor a try. Two visits and a week later, the fluid was gone for the first time in six months. Could have been a coincidence, but it makes sense that if the neck is out of line it could keep the ear canals from draining properly. Just wish I'd tried it earlier, the long term antibiotics caused stains in his developing permanent teeth!
During the Holiday season a few years ago, I was doing lots of toting and carrying, and developed a huge swollen area on my wrist. It looked like a growth or a knot. After several weeks I saw my doctor. They said they could lance it if it bothered me too much,
but that otherwise I should just see if it went away. It was uncomfortable, but I decided to try to let it go away option. A few days later I was seeing my chiropractor and I mentioned it to him. He looked at it and told me to relax, then pulled on it till it hurt like crazy! He told me a nerve and bone and gotten out of place. That evening the area was noticeable smaller, and within a week it was gone.
In the right situations, chiropractors can be very helpful!

She is the only person I know who is completely healthy, in her proper weight range, has had no trauma to her back, but had to have major back surgery, at 26!
) with rest. Days would go by and ds would still be in pain. So I finally took him to be adjusted and the spasm went away. So when his neck starts to spasm, he gets adjusted and it stops.
