How do you feel about Chiropractors?

Here is something from 2004:
Researchers from Oklahoma State University are studying how osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT) affects children with ear infections.

Ahh, but OMT and what chiropractors do are not the same thing. With the exception of Harvard Medical School, OMT is taught at Osteopathic Medical Schools. D.O.'s can work on the whole body, not just "align your spine". We believe that the body works together, and you treat the patient, not just the symptoms. We are able to combine tradition medicine (surgery, I.M., medications) with manipulation to do a treatment on the patient that incorporates both.

We have a wonderful chiro, that did cure my sons ear infections. I am a firm believer in allignment making the body well.

Believe it or not ear infections can clear the selfs with out meds. I work for a family prac.dr and His son had an ear infection and all he did was give him tylenol for pain, It cleared its self. I think if it works for you then fine but when they start cracking babies and childrens back when kids are sick thats just unprofessional to me.

I know my back could use the help of a chiro, but I don't want to sit through the sales pitch. It's like time share sales! If it's good medicine, then why do they need the high-pressure sales pitch?

yes, they can but they don't always clear on their own. What chiropractors do is "adjust" the spine; not crack anything. I know there is a whole lot more to it that I can not explain, but when a spine is out of alignment, the nerves that come out of the spine can get pinched, thus impeding them. This can cause problems to the particular part of the body that the nerve corresponds to. Babies and children's spines can be out of alignment as well as adults so why would it be unprofessional to adjust babies or children?

not all chiropractors give a sales pitch. I've been to two different chiro's and never heard any sales pitches from them.

I've never been to a palm reader to know that its bunk.

I've never been to a pysichic to know that its bunk.

I dont have to smoke meth to know that it wont do me any good.

Chiropractition is not based in science or medicine.

If you think it works for you, by all means go.

That does change the fact that I think it is lunacy.

it's based on the mechanics of your body...if that's not science I don't know what is
:confused3

I have never been but I have friends who swear by them. They take their kids for alignments when they have sinus congestion etc. I also know some folks who have the chiropractor come to the birth cottage where they had their baby and did an adjustment of some sort of their 3 hour old son. That freaks me out a bit!!

OMT is not chiropractory. OMT doesn't just involve the spine, but can treat other parts of the body as well. You can open up lymphatic channels to help drain lymphatic fluid, normalize sympathetic nerves, etc. I am currently at an osteopathic school, and last year, when I had pneumonia, I went to our school;s clinic where they wrote me out a prescription for antibiotics, and then did some techniques to help drain the chest congestion and make breathing easier.

I LOVE my chiro. I have been to more than one doctor who have recommended chiropractors to me. Why take drugs and pain killers for something that can be fixed "naturally"?

I've never had the need to visit one but my BIL swears his gave him his life back...he had terrible back pain and sciatica (sp?) and now lives a normal life, golfing, softbal. etc.

In your humble opinion. ;)

I love my Chiro and actually posted earlier on in this thread how much I love him and how much better I feel since going to him but I did not include in my original post what happened to my DBIL last year. He is a coal miner and started having seizures one day at work out of the blue. He went immediately to the hospital, they ran all kinds of test and could not find out what was wrong so they sent him home. Well the seizures kept on and on so much that he was not released to go back to work. Months go by he is still not working the docs can't find anything wrong and even anti-seizure meds aren't helping so out of desperation he takes a friends advice and goes to a chiro. No lets remember that the seizures were happening almost everyday several times a day. He goes to the chiro who tells him he has some kind of pinched nerve adjusts him and he has not had one since!

Enough proof for me that it worth giving them a try:thumbsup2

Having suffered for years with herniated discs, sciatic pain and mirgaines, (due to a fall) for years and tired of experiencing no positive results, I took it upon myself to be proactive and resort else where. As sadly my pain was never cured, rather covered up by drugs scribed by medical drs., neuros and orthopedics, before discovering drs of the chiropractic field.

I research alternatives and decided to give chiropractic care a try, as they work on the entire nervous system involving all the body functions, as like a car we must constantly keep in tune. It totally made sense to me! :)

I can see where chiropractic care may not work for everyone and every aliment ~ I am not here to sell chiropractic to anyone! I love my chiropractor, have gone to several off and on for almost half my life now ~ having had DTS spinal decompression therapy, soft tissue therapy, electrical stimulation, ultra sound, etc. Proper alignment and manipulation, being taught proper use of my spine, muscles, etc. and exercise to nourish my body has been a Godsend. For me, the proof is in the beholder of being pain free and functioning a normal life style w/o the aid of drugs ~ that's worth it weight in gold!!! :goodvibes

I send the OP best wishes and hope the therapy proves great results for her health issues! :shamrock:

Quack, quack.....
I have never met a REAL doctor that has any respect for them.
Modern day black magic. Kinda like the peddler that promised a miracle in a bottle.

I went to one for my carpal tunnel syndrome on a friend's suggestion. He rubbed, heated, electrocuted my wrists...very strange. It felt OK while he was doing it, but the second I walked out the pain returned. I don't know how long he would have had me returning before I decided I could rub my own wrists and put a heating pad on them for that much money. Also when I made the appointments, I asked them if they accepted my insurance. "YES", they said, and then after a month I get a bill and an EOB stating that kind of treatment isn't covered! The bill was about $1000! So I guess when I asked if they accepted MY insurance, I should have asked them if my insurance accepted them. I called them and complained that they lied and this was their problem and I never got another bill.

DH had a chiro for awhile for his neck. Did nothing for him either. There's no way I would let someone mess with my back..

I had surgery on my wrists a couple of months later after visiting a REAL doctor-(hand surgeon) and had feeling/no pain restored to about 95%-immediately.

LTS,
I love love love my Chiro!! He is amazing! Yes, you do need to find one that is good and right for you. We have 4 chiros in our office and each one is more aggressive then the next. The kids and I see the most gentle, DH will see him on occasion or the next one up if he's really needs extra tough adjusting.
I started seeing ours when I was pregnant with DS8, he kept me walking. My sciatica is soooo bad that one false move and I am literally paralyzed. It typically happens when I am moving from sitting to standing or vice versa. Nothing else helps but adjustments. When I was pregnant with DD2 I was getting into my car and my hip went out, I had to call my mom to come get me. She had to carry me into the Drs office. I walked out healthy and standing straight.

DH sees him a lot too. Between the car accident and hereditary bone issues he needs to stay adjusted. When he first started going he did go every other day for about 3 months, then it dwindled down. The day before the accident it had been 7 months since DH needed and adjustment. Now we are back to square one but he is slowly getting better.

Oh and the kids have been adjusted since the day they were born. DS7 has respiratory issues and one trip to the chiro and his breathing eases up.

I'm sorry but that doesn't sound like any chiropractor I have ever heard of.

Of all the people I know who have used chiropractors, they have had results. They are not quacks, they deal with science, and they are real doctors.

I agree- I can't believe someone would let anyone do that to their infant/child! How in the world did we ever make it past childhood in the "old days" without some quack talking our parents into thinking we all needed to be cracked!

I had awful siatica with my 2nd pregnancy and looking back on it now I am wondering if I should have tried a chiropracter. I did physical therapy and it didn't do anything for me.

And maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to have surgery on my foot (3x!) before trying a chiro. Ah well, can't go back.

That is EXACTLY how I am feeling!

It is very interesting the range of experiences. As I said, I was a complete skeptic when I first went but left feeling like there is something to all of this. And many of these stories seem to confirm this.

I am finding this very interesting. :scratchin

Oh, and the guy I am seeing now is very gentle. No more cracking and twisting and turning etc... I am amazed at the difference from a few years ago.

I guess I don't understand why it doesn't stand to reason that babies and children's spines can also be out of alignment.:confused3 I know when I was a kid my back would hurt and I had a friend walk on my back to make it feel better(remember George Jefferson?? :sad2: )I sure wish I had gone to a chiropractor then instead of damaging it even further by having someone walk on it!
